Align your portfolio to Apple's hardware-software stack
Apple Product Leads own experiences that span iOS, macOS, silicon, and physical devices. Frame past work around cross-functional ownership of hardware-integrated products. Reviewers assess whether your portfolio reflects that intersection, not just software-only product thinking.
Target roles with dedicated hardware product ownership
Apple's product org separates platform leads from hardware leads. Apply to roles explicitly tied to a product line like iPhone, Mac, or Apple Watch, where sponsorship pipelines are more established than in newer or emerging product verticals.
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
If your degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization. Apple's H-1B filings require USCIS to confirm specialty occupation status, and a foreign degree without evaluation can slow or complicate that determination.
Negotiate your start date around H-1B cap timelines
If you need a new H-1B, USCIS cap-subject filings open in April for an October 1 start. Build this into your offer negotiation. A start date that ignores the cap timeline creates unnecessary friction for both you and Apple's immigration team.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Product Lead roles at Apple
Apple posts Product Lead positions across multiple internal teams simultaneously, and timing matters. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Apple roles that align with your visa type so you're applying to the right openings at the right time.
Clarify your current status early in the process
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date before your first recruiter call. Apple's immigration team needs lead time to file an H-1B or initiate a cap-exempt transfer if you're already on an approved petition from a previous employer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Product Leads?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Product Lead roles. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation given the degree requirements in fields like computer science, engineering, or a related discipline. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, Apple's immigration team works with external counsel to file during the annual April registration window for an October 1 start date.
Which visa types does Apple commonly sponsor for Product Lead roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa (for Chilean and Singaporean nationals), E-3 visa (for Australian nationals), TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), and F-1 OPT or CPT for students. For longer-term permanent residency, Apple also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, typically initiated after an employee has been in role for some time.
How do I apply for Product Lead jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers site at jobs.apple.com. Product Lead roles at Apple are organized by product line and org, so searching by team or hardware category helps you find the right opening. Migrate Mate also aggregates Apple's sponsored Product Lead postings so you can filter by visa type and apply directly. Tailor your resume to reflect ownership of hardware-integrated or platform-level products.
What qualifications does Apple expect for a Product Lead role?
Apple expects Product Leads to have a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical or business field, typically paired with several years of product management experience on complex, cross-functional products. Roles closer to hardware or silicon require familiarity with engineering trade-offs at the component level. Candidates with experience shipping physical consumer products at companies like Google, Samsung, or Microsoft tend to be competitive.
How do I think about the timeline from offer to visa approval for a Product Lead role at Apple?
Timeline depends on your current status. E-3 and TN holders can transfer sponsorship relatively quickly, often within weeks of an approved Labor Condition Application filed with the DOL. H-1B transfers for cap-exempt candidates can also move fast. New cap-subject H-1B petitions require alignment with the April lottery and October 1 start, so factor three to six months of lead time into your planning.
