INTRODUCTION
MongoDB's Security Product Management team is seeking a Staff Product Manager to own security, compliance, and public sector product strategy within Atlas for Government (A4G). In this role, you will be a key member of the security product management team, helping make data security a market differentiator that enables MongoDB to win in enterprise and regulated industries.
You will lead product strategy and execution for capabilities and programs that support federal compliance requirements and broader regulated-industry needs. You will work across Engineering, Compliance, Legal, Security, and Go-to-Market teams to translate complex regulatory and customer requirements into clear product investments, roadmaps, and outcomes.
This role is suited for a candidate who can orchestrate multiple interlinked product areas, own cross-team product and architectural trade-offs, and align senior stakeholders around multi-year bets. You will be expected to identify opportunities and dependencies that cut across team boundaries, bring clarity to ambiguous problem spaces, and establish reusable ways of working that help MongoDB deliver secure, compliant platform capabilities for public sector and other regulated markets.
You will partner closely with senior engineering and business leaders to evaluate trade-offs, sequence investments, and bring clarity to decisions that balance customer impact, execution risk, and long-term business value.
This role can be based out of our offices or remotely in the United States.

Cross-Functional Program Leadership
- Drive complex, multi-team programs by setting governance, success metrics, and operating cadence across teams
- Partner with Compliance and Engineering on control interpretation, implementation decisions, and audit readiness
- Embed security- and compliance-first workflows into product development and delivery
Market Expansion and Public Sector go-to-market (GTM)
- Lead product strategy for expanding Atlas for Government into new regions, provisioning targets, and regulated markets
- Evaluate control plane and infrastructure options, assess engineering trade-offs, and align teams on expansion requirements
- Partner with Finance, Engineering, Legal, and GTM on pricing, certification, and launch decisions for new markets
Customer-Driven Product Development
- Build strong feedback loops with Customer Engineering, Solutions Architects, Support, and GTM to ensure roadmap priorities reflect field needs
- Translate customer escalations, support trends, and market gaps into a prioritized public sector roadmap
- Serve as an internal expert on emerging security, compliance, and regulatory trends that shape product direction
Stakeholder Alignment and Executive Communication
- Align Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Product Marketing, and GTM around product strategy and execution
- Define KPIs and success metrics for security and compliance investments
- Represent MongoDB with customers and prospects as a subject matter expert on secure cloud deployments and data protection

- Experience working with security focused engineers in a diverse team
- Some experience with Cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and GCP
- The ability to drive complex projects across multiple teams and deliver results
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to executive and field audiences alike
- Ability to write, promote, and execute business cases
- Comfortable with stage presence and public speaking
- B.Sc. in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
NICE TO HAVE
- Certifications or similar evidence of professional milestone completion and continuous training

Frame Your Portfolio Around Developer Products
MongoDB evaluates Product Leads on experience owning technical products for developer or data audiences. Document shipped features, API decisions, or platform migrations in your portfolio before applying. Generic enterprise product experience won't land the same way.
Identify Roles That Match Your Visa Category
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Product Lead positions. Cross-reference open roles against your eligibility before applying. Use Migrate Mate to filter MongoDB's Product Lead openings by the visa types you qualify for.
Get Your LCA Timing Right
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before the H-1B petition reaches USCIS. For Product Lead roles with equity components, confirm with your recruiter that the offered salary meets the prevailing wage threshold for the specific work location, not just headquarters.
Clarify OPT Cap-Gap Coverage Early
If you're on F-1 OPT and MongoDB submits your H-1B petition before your OPT expires, cap-gap protections extend your work authorization through September 30. Confirm your OPT end date relative to the H-1B filing window before accepting an offer timeline.
Target Teams With Active Platform Initiatives
MongoDB's Atlas and developer data platform teams historically hire Product Leads with cloud infrastructure or developer tooling backgrounds. Focusing your outreach on these teams rather than applying broadly increases the chance your application reaches a hiring manager with an active headcount.
Prepare Specialty Occupation Evidence for Your Role
USCIS scrutinizes Product Lead petitions more than engineering roles because the degree requirement connection is less automatic. Gather documentation showing your specific role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field, such as computer science, information systems, or engineering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MongoDB sponsor H-1B visas for Product Leads?
Yes, MongoDB sponsors H-1B visas for Product Lead roles. Because Product Lead is classified as a specialty occupation, your petition needs to demonstrate that the position requires a degree in a specific technical or business field. MongoDB's recruiting team typically initiates the Labor Condition Application process through DOL after an offer is extended, so confirm the timeline with your recruiter early.
Which visa types does MongoDB commonly use for Product Lead roles?
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Product Lead positions. Australian citizens typically pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and renews in two-year increments. Canadian and Mexican nationals on TN visa status can qualify under the management consultant or computer systems analyst categories depending on role scope. F-1 OPT is common for recent graduates entering associate product roles before transitioning to H-1B.
How do I apply for Product Lead jobs at MongoDB?
MongoDB posts Product Lead openings on its careers site, and roles are also accessible through Migrate Mate, which lets you filter specifically for positions where MongoDB has a sponsorship history. Tailor your application to highlight experience with developer-facing or data platform products. MongoDB's interview process for Product Leads typically involves a product sense screen, a technical depth interview, and a cross-functional leadership assessment, so prepare case studies from your existing portfolio.
What qualifications does MongoDB expect from Product Lead candidates?
MongoDB Product Lead roles generally require experience owning a technical product end-to-end, familiarity with developer workflows or data infrastructure, and the ability to work directly with engineering and design teams. A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field strengthens both your candidacy and your H-1B specialty occupation claim. Demonstrated experience with cloud-native or API-driven products is a consistent signal across MongoDB's Product Lead job descriptions.
How do I time my visa sponsorship process when interviewing at MongoDB?
H-1B petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start, so if you receive an offer outside that window, MongoDB may bridge your status through OPT cap-gap or a change of status filing. E-3 and TN processing moves faster and isn't lottery-dependent, so timelines are more flexible. Raise your visa situation with the recruiter before the offer stage so MongoDB's immigration counsel can map out your specific filing sequence without delaying your start date.
