Who We Are
The Internal Data team powers decisions and applications across MongoDB, organized around four core business areas: CustomerGTM, Product & Technology, Finance, and EmployeeHR. We build and scale the data products MongoDB employees rely on every day, including data pipelines, datasets, dashboards, APIs, ML models, and frameworks that form the backbone of our internal data ecosystem. Our work directly enables teams to hit their KPIs, automate workflows, and build the AI and BI capabilities that drive the business forward.
We treat data as a product. That means applying the same rigor, user focus, and outcome orientation to internal data that MongoDB brings to its external platform. As the company continues to grow, the scope and stakes of that work grow with it.
This role is focused on our Finance domain, where data products support smarter planning, forecasting, spend efficiency, and financial performance analysis. If you want to build data products that matter at scale, this is the role for you.
This role can be based out of one of our NYC, Austin, Palo Alto, or San Francisco office locations or remotely in the United States.
In this role you will own Finance-focused data products end to end, partnering with cross-functional teams to help shape product strategy, set priorities, define requirements, and drive delivery.
You will build and maintain pipelines, datasets, dashboards, APIs, and frameworks that Finance teams rely on daily for planning, forecasting, and performance analysis, while also contributing to the data management tools and services that power AI and BI across the company.
A significant part of the work is understanding your stakeholders. You will spend time with Finance teams learning their workflows, translating their needs into clear requirements and user stories, and building relationships across Finance, engineering, and technical counterparts.
You will keep the voice of the user central in prioritization and discovery, help shape the roadmap for Finance-focused data products, and push for the right solutions even when the ask is not fully formed.
You will own your product backlog, break complex problems into well-scoped increments, manage dependencies across technical teams, and support agile delivery from sprint planning through release. You will make thoughtful tradeoff decisions across business impact, technical feasibility, and timelines, while balancing new feature delivery with long-term platform health.
You will define success metrics and track adoption, usability, and business value. You will also drive adoption through documentation, onboarding, rollouts, and change management.
When issues arise, you will partner with engineering and Finance teams to drive resolution and capture what can be learned for next time.
What We're Looking For
- 3 to 5 years of product management experience with a focus on data products, platforms, analytics, or internal business systems, including at least one year at a modern, high-growth company
- Direct experience partnering with Finance stakeholders on planning, forecasting, or reporting workflows
- Solid foundation in data, analytics, and technical product management, with the ability to work effectively with engineering on technical details while staying focused on user value and business outcomes
- Familiarity with modern data platforms and scalable architecture concepts such as lakehouse or medallion models
- Experience working with sensitive financial data, including SOX-related processes, with sound judgment on balancing controls with execution speed
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences, with the ability to give stakeholders clear visibility into product direction, progress, and risk
- Comfortable operating with guidance from senior product and data leaders while independently owning your area and driving work forward with a high degree of accountability

Align your MongoDB Atlas experience upfront
MongoDB's data engineering team prioritizes hands-on experience with Atlas, Change Streams, and aggregation pipelines. Before applying, build or document projects using these tools so your resume speaks directly to the stack MongoDB hires for.
Target roles matching your current visa status
MongoDB hires across H-1B, E-3, F-1 OPT, and TN pathways. If you're on OPT, apply early enough to give your employer time to file an H-1B petition before your authorized period ends, since cap-subject filings must be submitted by March for an October start.
Prepare a specialty occupation paper trail early
For H-1B petitions, USCIS scrutinizes whether data engineering roles qualify as specialty occupations. Collect transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your credential is foreign, and any certifications in database architecture or distributed systems before your offer stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter MongoDB openings by visa type
MongoDB posts data engineering roles across multiple locations with varying sponsorship eligibility. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for MongoDB positions that match your visa category, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than guessing.
Understand MongoDB's LCA filing obligations before negotiating
Once MongoDB initiates an H-1B or E-3 petition, DOL requires a certified Labor Condition Application specifying your work location and prevailing wage. If your role is remote or you'll work across multiple MongoDB offices, flag this during the offer process so the LCA covers the correct worksite.
Sequence your interview timeline around MongoDB's hiring cycles
MongoDB typically ramps data engineering hiring in Q1 and Q3. If you're targeting an H-1B cap filing, securing an offer by February gives both you and MongoDB's immigration team adequate runway to prepare and submit the USCIS petition before the April 1 filing window opens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MongoDB sponsor H-1B visas for Data Engineers?
Yes, MongoDB sponsors H-1B visas for Data Engineer roles. The company works with immigration counsel to file cap-subject petitions each spring for an October 1 start date. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, MongoDB can file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start work as soon as USCIS receives the petition rather than waiting for approval.
How do I apply for Data Engineer jobs at MongoDB?
You can apply directly through MongoDB's careers site or find open Data Engineer roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate. When applying, tailor your resume to MongoDB's stack, specifically Atlas, aggregation frameworks, and distributed pipeline architecture. Roles are posted across multiple locations, so check whether a specific posting supports your visa type before applying.
Which visa types does MongoDB commonly use for Data Engineer hires?
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for technical roles including Data Engineers. E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and is often faster to obtain than H-1B since it has no lottery. TN visa applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or computer science roles.
What qualifications does MongoDB expect for Data Engineer roles?
MongoDB Data Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with distributed databases, ETL pipeline design, and cloud infrastructure is expected. Familiarity with MongoDB Atlas, Python or Java, and data modeling patterns used in document-oriented databases strengthens your application significantly over generic SQL-focused backgrounds.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at MongoDB?
Timeline depends on visa type. An E-3 or TN can be processed in weeks, sometimes at a port of entry or consulate. H-1B cap cases follow a fixed annual cycle with an October 1 start date. EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship involves PERM labor certification through DOL, followed by USCIS petition filing, a process that typically spans one to several years depending on your priority date.
