INTRODUCTION
We believe that the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and experiences that thousands of developers use to create their own products. Plaid powers the tools millions of people rely on to live a healthier financial life. We work with thousands of companies like Venmo, SoFi, several of the Fortune 500, and many of the largest banks to make it easy for people to connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. Plaid’s network covers 12,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Washington D.C., London and Amsterdam. The design team at Plaid is made up of product designers, researchers, and content strategists who work with our cross-functional partners to create Plaid’s products.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Consumer team at Plaid builds and owns the key consumer touchpoints from Plaid: Plaid Link and our future direct to consumer experiences. Plaid Link is the embedded UX that all of Plaid’s customers integrate in order to securely have their end-users share their bank data via Plaid, and Plaid’s core business is built on consumer trust and confidence in that platform. It’s this team’s responsibility to build on the success of the existing platform to keep innovating and delivering high quality consumer experiences that unlock financial freedom for users leveraging Plaid’s products. We're looking for an experienced Product Designer to own the design of Plaid’s consumer experiences. This is novel scope: a first-party, direct-to-consumer product inside a company most people know only through other companies' apps. You'll be the sole designer on a small, senior team, partnering closely with one PM and one engineering lead (as well as a nimble team of IC engineers). Your pod is also part of the larger Consumer team, and you’ll get to work across it on other projects too. You'll set the quality bar for the surface and take work from ambiguous problem to shipped, polished detail. We care a great deal about craft here — this is the product where Plaid's brand is judged directly by consumers, so the details are the substance, not the finish. We also work fast, and we expect the person in this role to have already made agentic development a real part of how they design and build.
Responsibilities
- Own consumer surface design end to end, from problem definition through pixel-level polish
- Set and hold the visual and interaction quality bar for Plaid's consumer product
- Partner directly with product and engineering from planning through execution, shaping what gets built
- Build working prototypes — including with AI agents — to test ideas before committing engineering time
- Produce high-quality work from wireframes and user flows to pixel-perfect prototypes with delightful interactions
- Advocate for consumers and for user-centered process across the team
- Contribute to design culture through collaboration, presenting work, and sharing feedback
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years creating and shipping quality digital products, with consumer experience across mobile and web
- Exceptional visual and interaction craft — you can build nearly anything yourself, and the details are right
- You've genuinely integrated AI agents into how you design and build, and can speak to what that changed
- Strong verbal and visual presentation skills and an articulate point of view about design
- A proven record of influencing team direction and planning, and of tying design to business goals and metrics
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Nice to have: you ship your own code, or have worked as a design engineer

Tips for Finding Product Lead Jobs at Plaid
Frame your fintech domain expertise early
Plaid's Product Lead roles sit at the intersection of developer tooling, financial APIs, and compliance. Tailor your resume to show experience with regulated data products or payment infrastructure before you apply, not after you get a call.
Confirm your visa category fits the role
Product Lead positions at Plaid typically require demonstrating that your role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. If you're on F-1 OPT, verify your SOC code aligns with product management before your employer files, since a mismatch can trigger an RFE.
Target Plaid's enterprise and growth product teams
Plaid organizes product work around verticals like identity, payments, and lending. Roles on these teams appear more frequently in sponsorship filings, so filtering open positions by those product areas increases your odds of landing a role with a clear sponsorship pathway.
Initiate the H-1B conversation before your OPT expires
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per fiscal year. If your OPT runs out before the next October 1 start date, you'll need a bridge strategy. Raise this timeline explicitly in recruiter conversations so Plaid's immigration counsel can plan accordingly.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Product Lead openings
Sponsorship-eligible roles at fintech companies fill quickly and aren't always labeled clearly on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter Product Lead positions at Plaid by visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Understand the PERM process if you're targeting a Green Card
Plaid has supported EB-2 and EB-3 pathways for Product Leads, but PERM labor certification requires your employer to run a market test through DOL before filing. That process takes months, so start the conversation with your hiring manager before you clear probation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Plaid sponsor H-1B visas for Product Leads?
Yes, Plaid sponsors H-1B visas for Product Lead roles. The company works with immigration counsel to file cap-subject petitions each spring for the October 1 start date, and supports cap-exempt transfers for candidates already holding H-1B status with another employer. If you're interviewing, ask the recruiter early whether the specific role is designated for sponsorship.
Which visa types does Plaid commonly use for Product Lead roles?
Plaid supports H-1B, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students in active programs, and EB-2 or EB-3 for candidates pursuing permanent residence. Product Lead roles typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS definitions, which makes them eligible across all of these categories depending on your situation and country of citizenship.
What qualifications does Plaid look for in a sponsored Product Lead?
Plaid's Product Lead roles generally require experience owning a product with a developer or financial services user base, cross-functional leadership, and comfort working with technical teams on API-driven products. For visa sponsorship purposes, your degree field needs to align with the role's specialty occupation classification. A background in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative business discipline tends to strengthen the USCIS petition.
How do I apply for Product Lead jobs at Plaid?
You can browse and apply for Product Lead positions at Plaid directly through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're not wasting time on positions that won't support your work authorization. Once you identify a role, apply through Plaid's careers portal and flag your visa status early in the recruiter screen so the team can loop in immigration counsel before an offer is extended.
How do I manage the timeline between an offer and my visa filing at Plaid?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer needs to file an H-1B petition during the April registration window for an October 1 start. That means an offer ideally comes through before March. If you're already in H-1B status at another employer, Plaid can file a transfer petition and you can start work once USCIS receives it, without waiting for approval.
