INTRODUCTION
We believe that the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and experiences that thousands of developers use to create their own products. Plaid powers the tools millions of people rely on to live a healthier financial life. We work with thousands of companies like Venmo, SoFi, several of the Fortune 500, and many of the largest banks to make it easy for people to connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. Plaid’s network covers 12,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Washington D.C., London and Amsterdam. The design team at Plaid is made up of product designers, researchers, and content strategists who work with our cross-functional partners to create Plaid’s products.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Consumer team at Plaid builds and owns the key consumer touchpoints from Plaid: Plaid Link and our future direct to consumer experiences. Plaid Link is the embedded UX that all of Plaid’s customers integrate in order to securely have their end-users share their bank data via Plaid, and Plaid’s core business is built on consumer trust and confidence in that platform. It’s this team’s responsibility to build on the success of the existing platform to keep innovating and delivering high quality consumer experiences that unlock financial freedom for users leveraging Plaid’s products. We're looking for an experienced Product Designer to own the design of Plaid’s consumer experiences. This is novel scope: a first-party, direct-to-consumer product inside a company most people know only through other companies' apps. You'll be the sole designer on a small, senior team, partnering closely with one PM and one engineering lead (as well as a nimble team of IC engineers). Your pod is also part of the larger Consumer team, and you’ll get to work across it on other projects too. You'll set the quality bar for the surface and take work from ambiguous problem to shipped, polished detail. We care a great deal about craft here — this is the product where Plaid's brand is judged directly by consumers, so the details are the substance, not the finish. We also work fast, and we expect the person in this role to have already made agentic development a real part of how they design and build.
Responsibilities
- Own consumer surface design end to end, from problem definition through pixel-level polish
- Set and hold the visual and interaction quality bar for Plaid's consumer product
- Partner directly with product and engineering from planning through execution, shaping what gets built
- Build working prototypes — including with AI agents — to test ideas before committing engineering time
- Produce high-quality work from wireframes and user flows to pixel-perfect prototypes with delightful interactions
- Advocate for consumers and for user-centered process across the team
- Contribute to design culture through collaboration, presenting work, and sharing feedback
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years creating and shipping quality digital products, with consumer experience across mobile and web
- Exceptional visual and interaction craft — you can build nearly anything yourself, and the details are right
- You've genuinely integrated AI agents into how you design and build, and can speak to what that changed
- Strong verbal and visual presentation skills and an articulate point of view about design
- A proven record of influencing team direction and planning, and of tying design to business goals and metrics
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Nice to have: you ship your own code, or have worked as a design engineer

Tips for Finding Product Owner Jobs at Plaid
Frame your fintech domain expertise early
Plaid's Product Owner roles center on open banking, data connectivity, and developer-facing APIs. Highlight any experience with financial data products, payment rails, or regulated tech environments in your resume before you apply.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility upfront
Product Owner roles at technology companies like Plaid typically fall under STEM-eligible SOC codes. Verify your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension through your DSO before your initial 12 months expire.
Use Migrate Mate to target open Product Owner roles
Plaid posts Product Owner positions across product lines and geographies at different times. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Plaid roles that explicitly support visa sponsorship so you're not applying blindly to positions that won't move forward.
Align your application to the H-1B specialty occupation standard
H-1B eligibility requires that the role demands a degree in a specific field. For Product Owner positions, a background in computer science, information systems, or engineering strengthens the specialty occupation argument USCIS will evaluate.
Time your offer acceptance around the H-1B cap calendar
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT and receive an offer from Plaid, confirm whether your authorization covers the gap between offer acceptance and an approved H-1B start date.
Understand how PERM affects your long-term path
If Plaid sponsors you for an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, the DOL PERM labor certification process requires demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available. That recruitment process takes months and typically begins after you've proven yourself in the role.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Plaid sponsor H-1B visas for Product Owners?
Yes, Plaid sponsors H-1B visas for Product Owner roles. The company operates in financial technology infrastructure, and Product Owner positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards given their requirement for a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field. You'll want to confirm sponsorship availability for the specific role you're applying to, as not every open position is guaranteed to include it.
Which visa types are commonly used for Product Owner roles at Plaid?
Product Owners at Plaid most commonly work on H-1B status, but the company also supports F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT for candidates earlier in their career. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose background fits the qualifying USMCA occupational categories. For longer-term paths, Plaid has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through the PERM process for employees in this function.
How do I apply for Product Owner jobs at Plaid?
Applications go through Plaid's careers page, where Product Owner roles are listed by team and product area. Before applying, confirm that the posting indicates visa sponsorship availability. You can browse and filter Plaid's open Product Owner positions that support work visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles specifically tagged for international candidates so you can prioritize where to spend your time.
What qualifications does Plaid expect for Product Owner roles?
Plaid's Product Owner roles generally require a technical undergraduate degree and hands-on experience owning a product roadmap in a software or fintech environment. Experience with APIs, developer tooling, or financial data products is a strong differentiator. For visa sponsorship purposes, having a degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering also reinforces the specialty occupation classification that H-1B requires.
How do I manage visa timing during the hiring process at Plaid?
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your expiration date before accepting an offer and discuss the H-1B sponsorship timeline with your recruiter early. USCIS's H-1B cap filing window opens each April for an October start, so if your OPT expires before October and you haven't been selected in the lottery, you'll need a cap-exempt solution or a STEM extension to bridge the gap.
