INTRODUCTION
We believe that the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and experiences that thousands of developers use to create their own products. Plaid powers the tools millions of people rely on to live a healthier financial life. We work with thousands of companies like Venmo, SoFi, several of the Fortune 500, and many of the largest banks to make it easy for people to connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. Plaid’s network covers 12,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Washington D.C., London and Amsterdam. The design team at Plaid is made up of product designers, researchers, and content strategists who work with our cross-functional partners to create Plaid’s products.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Consumer team at Plaid builds and owns the key consumer touchpoints from Plaid: Plaid Link and our future direct to consumer experiences. Plaid Link is the embedded UX that all of Plaid’s customers integrate in order to securely have their end-users share their bank data via Plaid, and Plaid’s core business is built on consumer trust and confidence in that platform. It’s this team’s responsibility to build on the success of the existing platform to keep innovating and delivering high quality consumer experiences that unlock financial freedom for users leveraging Plaid’s products. We're looking for an experienced Product Designer to own the design of Plaid’s consumer experiences. This is novel scope: a first-party, direct-to-consumer product inside a company most people know only through other companies' apps. You'll be the sole designer on a small, senior team, partnering closely with one PM and one engineering lead (as well as a nimble team of IC engineers). Your pod is also part of the larger Consumer team, and you’ll get to work across it on other projects too. You'll set the quality bar for the surface and take work from ambiguous problem to shipped, polished detail. We care a great deal about craft here — this is the product where Plaid's brand is judged directly by consumers, so the details are the substance, not the finish. We also work fast, and we expect the person in this role to have already made agentic development a real part of how they design and build.
Responsibilities
- Own consumer surface design end to end, from problem definition through pixel-level polish
- Set and hold the visual and interaction quality bar for Plaid's consumer product
- Partner directly with product and engineering from planning through execution, shaping what gets built
- Build working prototypes — including with AI agents — to test ideas before committing engineering time
- Produce high-quality work from wireframes and user flows to pixel-perfect prototypes with delightful interactions
- Advocate for consumers and for user-centered process across the team
- Contribute to design culture through collaboration, presenting work, and sharing feedback
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years creating and shipping quality digital products, with consumer experience across mobile and web
- Exceptional visual and interaction craft — you can build nearly anything yourself, and the details are right
- You've genuinely integrated AI agents into how you design and build, and can speak to what that changed
- Strong verbal and visual presentation skills and an articulate point of view about design
- A proven record of influencing team direction and planning, and of tying design to business goals and metrics
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Nice to have: you ship your own code, or have worked as a design engineer

Tips for Finding Product Manager Jobs at Plaid
Frame your PM credentials around technical depth
Plaid hires PMs who can work directly with engineering and API-focused teams. Highlight experience with developer products, data infrastructure, or fintech platforms in your resume before you apply, since generalist PM backgrounds get screened out early.
Confirm your visa type before the offer stage
Plaid sponsors H-1B, TN, and employment-based Green Card pathways, but each has different employer filing requirements. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT end date aligns with H-1B cap-gap coverage so there's no work authorization gap during the transition.
Target Plaid's platform and partnerships teams first
Plaid's publicly listed PM openings frequently cluster around their core data network, identity verification, and financial institution partnerships. Applying to roles in these areas positions you against the clearest hiring signal rather than exploratory headcount.
Understand how PERM timelines affect your offer negotiation
If you're targeting a Green Card through Plaid, DOL's PERM labor certification can take 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives the I-140. Factor that into your start date and stock vesting conversations so you're not surprised mid-process.
Search verified sponsoring employers before outreach
Use Migrate Mate to filter Product Manager openings specifically at companies with confirmed H-1B and employment-based sponsorship history, so you're spending your time on roles that have a realistic path to visa filing, not guessing from job descriptions.
Prepare a system design example from fintech or payments
Plaid's PM interviews typically include product design and technical scoping questions grounded in financial data or API ecosystems. Walking in with a prepared example from payments, lending, or open banking substantially strengthens your case against candidates without that context.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Plaid sponsor H-1B visas for Product Managers?
Yes, Plaid sponsors H-1B visas for Product Manager roles. The H-1B requires your employer to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and a petition with USCIS. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions are subject to an annual lottery, timing matters, and you'll want to confirm where you are in that cycle before accepting an offer that depends on cap-subject H-1B approval.
How do I apply for Product Manager jobs at Plaid?
Apply directly through Plaid's careers page, where openings are listed by team and function. Before applying, filter by roles that align with Plaid's core product areas like data connectivity, identity, and payments infrastructure. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse verified Product Manager openings at Plaid alongside their sponsorship history, which helps you prioritize applications strategically.
Which visa types does Plaid commonly sponsor for Product Managers?
Plaid sponsors H-1B visas, F-1 OPT and CPT for students or recent graduates, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 preference categories. The right pathway depends on your nationality, current status, and how long you've been in the U.S., so it's worth mapping your situation to the available options before you reach the offer stage.
What qualifications does Plaid expect for Product Manager roles?
Plaid typically looks for PMs with a background in software engineering, data systems, or financial services, alongside demonstrated experience shipping products in a B2B or developer-facing context. A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field is common, though equivalent industry experience in fintech or API product development carries weight. Candidates who can engage directly with engineering on infrastructure-level decisions tend to advance further in the process.
How do I think about timing when pursuing a Product Manager role at Plaid on a visa?
If you're on F-1 OPT, the H-1B cap deadline falls in March each year for an October 1 start, so your offer timeline needs to account for that window. TN visas can be processed more quickly and don't carry the same annual cap constraints, which makes them a practical bridge for Canadian and Mexican nationals. For Green Card pathways, PERM labor certification alone takes well over a year, so starting that conversation with your employer early in your tenure matters.
