INTRODUCTION
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.
Affirm is building its own bank — and this role sits at the center of that ambition. We're looking for a Staff Product Manager to own the end-to-end bank product: operationalizing a new bank charter within Affirm's ecosystem, launching the deposit product, driving loan originations through the bank entity, and ensuring seamless integration across Affirm's platform. This is a rare opportunity to build a foundational new business line from the ground up — one that will reshape how Affirm funds, serves, and grows relationships with its consumers. You'll work at the intersection of regulated banking, platform engineering, and consumer products to bring Affirm's bank to life.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the end-to-end bank product. Serve as the single-threaded product owner across deposits, loan originations, banking compliance, and operations. You are the person who holds the full picture of how the bank works within Affirm's ecosystem — and you drive it forward.
- Launch and own the bank's deposit product. Ship Affirm's bank deposit offering as part of launch, then own the deposit product roadmap on a go-forward basis – scaling from early launch to a multi-billion-dollar deposit base, making strategic decisions about how deposits integrate with Affirm's credit products and broader consumer experience.
- Operationalize the de novo bank build. Drive the cross-functional work required to stand up and scale bank operations — ensuring regulatory readiness, process maturity, vendor integrations, and seamless connectivity with Affirm's existing lending and money movement infrastructure.
- Drive originations through the bank entity. Shape how Affirm originates and retains loans through its own bank, working closely with Credit, Capital Markets, Engineering, and Treasury to optimize volume ramp, unit economics, loan sale and retention mechanics, and regulatory compliance.
- Navigate banking compliance and regulatory requirements. Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and the Bank's executive team to ensure all products and operations meet federal and state regulatory standards. Build compliance into the product from day one — not as an afterthought. Understand the unique demands of a de novo bank under FDIC and state supervision.
- Integrate the bank deposit product into Affirm's consumer ecosystem. Define clear domain boundaries, design requirements for new data flows, and integration points between the bank and Affirm Inc. — working across Servicing, Settlements, Consumer Payments, Checkout, and Growth teams to ensure the bank's products work seamlessly within the Affirm app and platform.
- Influence up and across the organization. Communicate strategy, tradeoffs, and priorities to senior leadership and the Bank Board with clarity and conviction. Build alignment across a broad set of stakeholders — Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Treasury, Capital Markets, and executive leadership — who each bring different constraints and incentives.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years of product management experience, with demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic, independent leader on complex, ambiguous initiatives
- Proven program leadership at scale — you've owned high visibility cross-functional launches across many stakeholders, with direct exposure to executive leadership and/or boards.
- Experience in banking, deposits, or lending — you understand deposit products, bank charter operations, or loan origination mechanics and the regulatory landscape that governs them
- Bank charter experience is strongly preferred — you've been through or contributed meaningfully to a de novo bank launch or early-stage bank buildout
- Deposit product strategy experience is a strong plus — you've defined or scaled deposit products such as high yield savings accounts, spending accounts, or CDs, and you understand the levers of deposit growth, pricing, and consumer acquisition
- Experience in fintech, financial services, or banking; familiarity with BNPL, neobanking, or platform products is a plus
- Strong technical fluency — you're comfortable working with engineers on system design, data models, API architecture, and core banking platform integrations
- Proficiency with AI-assisted tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) to accelerate your own work and raise the bar for quality and speed
- Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional alignment across Legal, Compliance, Engineering, Finance, and executive leadership in highly regulated environments
- Exceptional written and verbal communication — you can distill complex regulatory and financial concepts into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences including regulators, executives, and engineering teams
- Bias for action and intellectual curiosity — you move fast, ask hard questions, and take ownership before being asked
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience

Frame your fintech product experience precisely
Affirm evaluates Product Owners on experience with payments, credit, or lending workflows. Tailor your resume to surface ownership of regulated financial products, not just general software roadmaps. Ambiguous experience in unrelated verticals raises immediate questions in their hiring panels.
Target roles aligned with your OPT timeline
If you're on F-1 OPT, apply early enough to allow onboarding before your work authorization window closes. Affirm's product hiring cycles can run eight to twelve weeks, so a late application risks missing your usable authorization period entirely.
Clarify H-1B cap status before your final interview
Ask your recruiter whether Affirm files H-1B petitions under the regular cap or through a cap-exempt entity. USCIS registration opens each March, and missing the window means a full year's delay, so confirming this before you accept an offer protects your timeline.
Demonstrate cross-functional influence in lending contexts
Affirm's Product Owner interviews weight stakeholder alignment across compliance, risk, and engineering. Prepare examples where you navigated regulatory constraints inside a financial product, not just shipped features. This directly maps to how the role is scoped internally.
Search Affirm's open Product Owner roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Product Owner positions at Affirm by visa type, so you see only roles actively open to sponsored candidates. This saves time you'd otherwise spend screening postings that don't surface sponsorship eligibility upfront.
Understand how PERM affects your Green Card path
EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship at fintech companies requires DOL's PERM labor certification before USCIS adjudicates your petition. The PERM process typically takes twelve to eighteen months on its own, so discussing permanent residency intentions early with your hiring manager matters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Product Owners?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Product Owner roles. The company participates in the annual USCIS H-1B cap registration process each March, so timing your offer and onboarding around that window is important. If you're already H-1B cap-exempt through a previous employer, a transfer petition can proceed outside the lottery entirely.
Which visa types are commonly used for Product Owner roles at Affirm?
Product Owners at Affirm are commonly sponsored on H-1B visas for long-term employment. F-1 OPT and CPT are supported for students earlier in the hiring pipeline, and TN visa status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying specialty occupations. Affirm also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for eligible employees seeking permanent residency.
What qualifications and experience does Affirm expect for Product Owner roles?
Affirm looks for Product Owners with direct experience in financial services, payments, or consumer lending products. A background in credit decisioning, checkout flows, or regulated fintech features carries strong weight. Most roles expect you to demonstrate end-to-end product ownership, comfort with data-driven prioritization, and experience coordinating across compliance and engineering teams in fast-moving environments.
How do I apply for Product Owner jobs at Affirm?
Browse open Product Owner positions at Affirm through Migrate Mate, where you can filter specifically for roles that support visa sponsorship. Once you identify a match, apply directly through Affirm's careers portal. Highlight fintech product ownership experience in your application materials and be prepared for a multi-stage process that typically includes a recruiter screen, product case study, and panel interviews.
How do I plan my timeline if Affirm is sponsoring my H-1B as a new hire?
USCIS H-1B cap registration opens in March each year, with approved petitions taking effect October 1. If you're not already in H-1B status, align your offer acceptance and any OPT end date with that October start. If your OPT expires before October, ask Affirm's immigration team whether a cap-gap extension or premium processing election under USCIS expedite criteria applies to your situation.
