Overview
MSN is one of the largest content properties on the internet, reaching hundreds of millions of users across Windows, Edge, Copilot, and the open web. As we move towards an agentic future, we are rethinking our ad formats, diversifying our demand mix, building new sponsorship and branded content products, and strengthening the supply quality.
We're looking for a senior product leader to own this transformation end to end. You will be the single accountable person for MSN monetization strategy, product development, and revenue performance. You'll work across engineering, sales, leadership, and finance to ship products that grow the business while improving the user experience.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the MSN monetization strategy across our suite of premium brand products, sponsorship, and new measurement capabilities.
- Partner with finance to build credible forecasts and track delivery against plan. e.g. Identify and close gaps before they become surprises, etc.
- Partner with MSN editorial leadership to align the commercial strategy with the editorial direction.
- Coordinate across engineering teams to sequence the technical investments (ad serving, data infrastructure, format development) against the commercial roadmap.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 15+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in ad monetization, ad product management, or platform economics, with at least 5 years in a senior or leadership role.
- Deep understanding of the programmatic advertising ecosystem.
- Experience building and shipping premium ad products (sponsorships, branded content, high-impact placements) and working with sales teams to bring them to market.
- Demonstrated ability to own a revenue target and deliver against it. You're comfortable presenting financial performance to senior leadership and making real-time tradeoffs between short-term yield and long-term positioning.
- Track record of operating independently across multiple teams (engineering, sales, editorial, finance) without needing someone else to broker alignment for you.
- Solid product sense for ad formats and user experience.
- Experience at a large-scale content or media platform (news, video, social, or aggregation) where you've dealt with the specific dynamics of editorial trust, ad quality perception, and brand safety.
- Familiarity with audience data infrastructure: identity resolution, match rates, first-party data activation, and privacy-compliant targeting at scale.
- Experience managing through a platform transition (e.g., migrating ad products across surface redesigns, consolidating demand across legacy and new experiences).
- Exposure to gaming monetization, video ad products, or cross-surface attribution.

Frame Your PM Experience Around Microsoft's Platforms
Microsoft evaluates Product Leads on their ability to drive outcomes across platform ecosystems like Azure, Microsoft 365, or Copilot. Tailor your resume and portfolio to show cross-functional product ownership, not just feature delivery.
Verify Your Visa Category Before Interviewing
Microsoft sponsors H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1 visas for Product Lead roles. Knowing which category applies to your nationality before the offer stage lets you ask informed questions and avoids delays in the sponsorship conversation.
Target Roles Explicitly Requiring Sponsorship Eligibility
Some Microsoft product roles are tied to government contracts and restrict sponsorship eligibility. Filter your search to roles that explicitly state sponsorship is available, and confirm this before the final interview round.
Prepare for the LCA Timeline in Your Start Date Negotiation
Microsoft must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. This adds time before USCIS processing begins. Build at least three to four weeks of LCA lead time into any start date you negotiate.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Product Lead Roles
Searching for Microsoft Product Lead roles that include sponsorship can be time-consuming across general job boards. Migrate Mate filters specifically for visa-sponsoring employers, so you can focus on positions where your sponsorship need is already accounted for.
Get Your TC Breakdown in Writing Before Signing
Microsoft's total compensation includes base, bonus, and RSU components. The prevailing wage on your LCA is tied to base salary only. Confirm the base meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for your level and location before you accept.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Microsoft sponsor H-1B visas for Product Leads?
Yes, Microsoft sponsors H-1B visas for Product Lead roles. The process involves Microsoft filing a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then submitting a petition to USCIS on your behalf. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, timing matters, as registrations open in March each year for an October 1 start date.
Which visa types does Microsoft commonly use for Product Lead roles?
Microsoft sponsors H-1B visas for most international Product Lead hires, along with E-3 visas for Australian citizens and H-1B1 visas for citizens of Chile and Singapore. For candidates already on a Green Card pathway or with an approved I-140, Microsoft also supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa processes depending on your situation.
How do I apply for Product Lead jobs at Microsoft?
Applications go through Microsoft's careers portal, where Product Lead roles are listed by division and location. You can also browse roles verified for visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions where international candidates are considered. Referrals from current Microsoft employees carry meaningful weight at the screening stage, so internal connections help.
What qualifications does Microsoft expect for Product Lead roles?
Microsoft typically looks for a bachelor's degree in a technical or business field, though many Product Lead hires hold advanced degrees in computer science, engineering, or MBA programs. Practical experience leading cross-functional product teams, defining product strategy across a platform or product line, and working in cloud, AI, or enterprise software contexts is what differentiates competitive candidates.
How do I plan my timeline if Microsoft is sponsoring my H-1B?
If you're cap-subject, the earliest you can start is October 1 of the fiscal year your registration is selected. Microsoft typically begins the sponsorship conversation after an offer is signed. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a cap-exempt transfer is possible, which means you can start sooner without waiting for the annual lottery cycle.
