Tips for Finding Engineering Jobs at Nuro
Align your portfolio with autonomous systems work
Nuro's engineering roles span perception, motion planning, and vehicle infrastructure. Before applying, document projects that show systems-level thinking, not just isolated features. A portfolio grounded in robotics, ML pipelines, or real-time software will signal fit faster than a general software resume.
Confirm your visa type matches the role level
H-1B and TN each carry different eligibility constraints and timing rules. If you're on F-1 OPT targeting a senior engineering role, verify your OPT end date against a realistic offer-to-filing timeline so you're not caught in a gap before USCIS processes your petition.
Research Nuro's LCA filings before your interview
DOL's LCA disclosure data shows the job titles and wage levels Nuro has filed for engineering positions. Reviewing these before your interview helps you understand the role classification you'd fall under and whether the offered title aligns with what Nuro has historically petitioned.
Target engineering roles that match your specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the job duties for H-1B approval. At Nuro, a software engineering role anchored in machine learning or embedded systems maps more cleanly than a generalist title. Narrow your applications to roles where that match is explicit.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Nuro engineering roles by visa type
Nuro posts roles across multiple engineering tracks, and not every listing signals sponsorship equally. Migrate Mate filters Nuro's engineering openings by the visa types the company sponsors, so you can prioritize applications where your status is already a known fit.
Negotiate your start date around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS lottery registration opens in March with an October 1 start date if selected. Build that into your offer negotiation early so your recruiter can plan the filing timeline without rushing or missing the window.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nuro sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Nuro sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The company has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions across engineering disciplines including software, robotics, and autonomy. If you're on OPT or currently hold H-1B status, Nuro's engineering roles are a realistic target, though you'll need a role that clearly qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines.
Which visa types does Nuro commonly use for Engineering roles?
Nuro supports a range of visa categories for engineering positions, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican engineers, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage.
What qualifications does Nuro expect for Engineering roles?
Most engineering roles at Nuro expect a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or a closely related field. For H-1B eligibility, that degree-to-role alignment is a USCIS requirement, not just a preference. Senior roles typically require hands-on experience in areas like perception systems, motion planning, embedded software, or large-scale distributed infrastructure.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Nuro?
You can browse and apply for Nuro's open engineering roles through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm your status is supported before applying. Nuro's engineering hiring process typically includes a recruiter screen, technical assessments, and system design interviews. Tailoring your application to Nuro's autonomous vehicle focus improves your chances of moving through early screening.
How do I time my application if I'm on F-1 OPT targeting an H-1B at Nuro?
If you're on F-1 OPT, the critical window is USCIS's H-1B registration period in March. Your employer must submit a registration before the lottery, and if selected, the petition can be filed for an October 1 start date. Apply to Nuro several months before your OPT expires to give enough runway for an offer, LCA certification through DOL, and petition filing ahead of the cap deadline.
