Frame your experience around cross-functional impact
Google's Strategy and Business Operations teams value candidates who've driven decisions across product, finance, or go-to-market functions. Quantify outcomes from cross-team projects in your resume so your materials speak directly to how the role operates internally.
Target roles aligned to specific Google business units
Strategy Business Operations at Google spans YouTube, Cloud, Ads, and corporate functions. Each has distinct hiring cycles and sponsorship patterns. Research which business unit matches your background and apply directly to those postings rather than broad strategy roles.
Understand which visa category fits your citizenship
Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, which has no lottery and offers faster timelines than the H-1B. If you're not Australian, H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start. Your citizenship determines your path before your resume does.
Confirm your offer letter references visa sponsorship
Before signing, verify the offer letter explicitly states that Google will file a visa petition on your behalf. The DOL requires a certified Labor Condition Application before any H-1B or E-3 petition is filed, so the employer must initiate this step.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Strategy Business Operations openings at companies with confirmed sponsorship histories. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to roles where visa support is unclear before you invest time in preparing applications.
Prepare for case interviews with a strategy operations lens
Google's hiring process for Strategy Business Operations roles typically includes structured case interviews focused on business problem-solving, not just technical analysis. Practice frameworks involving resource allocation, market sizing, and operational tradeoffs specific to large-scale technology businesses.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Strategy Business Operations?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Strategy Business Operations roles. These positions typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, economics, or engineering. Google initiates the Labor Condition Application with the DOL and files the I-129 petition with USCIS on your behalf once you have an offer.
How do I apply for Strategy Business Operations jobs at Google?
Apply through Google's careers portal at careers.google.com, filtering by the Strategy and Operations job family. Applications are reviewed by a recruiter before moving to phone screens and structured interviews. You can also browse open Strategy Business Operations positions at Google through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with confirmed sponsorship support in one place.
Which visa types does Google sponsor for Strategy Business Operations roles?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for Strategy Business Operations positions. The H-1B applies broadly to international candidates, the H-1B1 is available to Chilean and Singaporean nationals under specific trade agreements, and the E-3 is exclusively for Australian citizens. Each category has different application timelines and filing requirements, so your citizenship determines which path applies.
What qualifications does Google expect for Strategy Business Operations roles?
Google typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, or a quantitative field, often combined with an MBA for senior roles. Practical experience in management consulting, investment banking, or internal strategy at a technology company carries significant weight. Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders are common expectations across postings.
How do I think about timing when targeting a Strategy Business Operations role at Google on a visa?
Timing depends on your visa category. E-3 and H-1B1 visa petitions can be filed year-round without a lottery, so offer and start dates are more flexible. H-1B cap-subject petitions require registration in March for an October 1 start date, which means a six-month gap between offer and your first day if you're selected. Plan your job search timeline around these windows to avoid gaps in authorization.
