INTRODUCTION
Voleon Securities, a new business within the Voleon Group, provides liquidity in securities markets. We apply state-of-the-art AI/ML techniques to construct our market making strategies. For nearly two decades, our affiliate Voleon Capital Management has led the hedge fund industry and worked at the frontier of applying AI/ML to investment management, becoming a multibillion-dollar asset manager. Voleon Securities builds on Voleon’s deep real-world experience applying ML to financial markets. Voleon Securities is looking for creative, entrepreneurial researchers who enjoy grappling with very difficult problems.
This is a chance to join the initial buildout of a fully modern securities business rooted in the frontier of AI/ML and statistics. We particularly welcome researchers with practical experience in optimal stochastic control, deep RL, deep learning, and causal inference. Your colleagues will include internationally recognized experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning research as well as highly experienced finance and technology professionals.
As a Member of Research Staff, you will work at the forefront of modern statistical machine learning. Your research colleagues across Voleon have collectively published hundreds of academic articles in top-tier venues on machine learning, systems, and theory, and we meet regularly to stay current on the latest academic research and share ideas. Founded in 2007 by two leading scientists, Voleon supports a culture of curiosity, collegiality, and creativity.
Your work will focus on financial market prediction and portfolio optimization. The behavior of financial markets is noisy and violates a number of classical statistical assumptions, and we’ve spent over a decade pioneering scientific advances in the application of machine learning techniques to this domain. You will work with a complex and diverse array of datasets to implement and iterate on predictive models. Predicting financial markets is an enduringly hard problem, but results are immediate and unambiguous.
Years of academic training has prepared you for this moment. You won’t just conduct research, you’ll apply it on a daily basis, working with a team across the entire life cycle of applied research problems. Your work will span from basic research to productizing solutions and validating their efficacy in live trading.

- Prepare and analyze new datasets to assess their predictive efficacy
- Develop, validate, and implement new models into production
- Design and conduct experiments to improve simulations and evaluate the success of new models in a live environment
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with other Members of Research Staff and Software Engineers at each stage, driving progress towards tangible outcomes
- Keep up to date on the latest academic research to identify novel approaches to explore for application to our domain
REQUIREMENTS
- Background in modern statistical methods and machine learning with a track record as an applied researcher, preferably with experience in at least one of the following: optimal control, deep RL, deep learning, and causal inference
- Hands-on experience building successful liquidity providing strategies across asset classes preferred but not required
- Evidence of strong mathematical abilities (e.g., publication record, graduate coursework, or competition placement)
- Interest in software development techniques and willingness to write production-level code (Python)
- Ability to solve large-scale computing problems
- Eagerness to work in a fast paced and growing business
- Interest in financial applications is essential, but prior finance industry experience is not a pre-requisite
- Ph.D. level coursework is required, and a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field is preferred

Job Roles at Typical Set
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Typical Set Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target specialized finance and analytical roles
Green Card sponsorship at Typical Set is most common in roles requiring deep technical expertise in investment management, such as portfolio analysis, quantitative research, and asset valuation. Generalist positions are less likely to qualify for employer-sponsored permanent residence.
Understand the PERM labor certification process
Typical Set's Green Card filings go through PERM, where the Department of Labor must certify no qualified U.S. workers are available. Candidates should understand this process takes time and requires the employer to conduct a formal recruitment period before filing.
Raise Green Card intent early and professionally
In investment and asset management firms like Typical Set, long-term workforce planning matters. Raise your Green Card sponsorship needs during offer negotiations rather than after onboarding to give both parties time to align on a realistic sponsorship timeline.
Demonstrate specialized expertise that is hard to replace
PERM requires Typical Set to show your role couldn't be filled by a qualified U.S. worker. Candidates with niche skills in asset management, proprietary investment strategies, or specialized financial modeling are in the strongest position to clear that bar.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified Green Card roles at Typical Set
When searching for open positions, Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus only on companies like Typical Set that have a documented track record of filing Green Cards for employees.

Does Typical Set sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Typical Set sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees in the investment and asset management industry. Sponsorship is selective and tends to be reserved for specialized roles where the company has difficulty finding U.S. workers with the required expertise. Candidates in technical finance and analytical positions are most likely to be considered for sponsorship.
Which roles at Typical Set are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Typical Set is most common in roles tied to core investment and asset management functions, including portfolio analysis, quantitative research, financial modeling, and risk management. Positions requiring highly specialized knowledge or advanced credentials in finance are more likely to qualify than generalist or administrative roles.
How does the Green Card application process work at Typical Set?
Typical Set follows the standard employer-sponsored Green Card process, beginning with PERM labor certification through the Department of Labor. Once PERM is approved, the company files an immigrant petition with USCIS under the EB-2 or EB-3 category. After approval and visa availability, you either apply for adjustment of status in the U.S. or go through consular processing abroad.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at Typical Set?
The full process typically takes several years from PERM filing to Green Card approval, depending on your country of birth and the visa category used. PERM alone can take a year or more, and EB-2 and EB-3 wait times vary significantly. Candidates from India face the longest backlogs due to per-country limits under current immigration law.
How do I find Green Card jobs at Typical Set on Migrate Mate?
Migrate Mate allows you to search and filter job listings by verified sponsorship history, including Green Card filings. You can use Migrate Mate to identify open roles at Typical Set that align with positions the company has historically sponsored for permanent residence, helping you focus your application efforts on realistic opportunities rather than guessing at sponsorship policies.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Typical Set?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
