Target openings posted in spring hiring cycles
School districts hire heaviest between February and May for the following academic year. Applying during this window at Gwinnett County gives you the best chance of landing an offer with enough lead time for H-1B filing before the October 1 start date.
Confirm ASHA certification aligns with the posting
Gwinnett County postings for Speech Language Pathologists typically require the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence. Make sure your CCC is current and your credentials are clearly documented on your resume before outreach to the district's HR team.
Ask HR directly about their H-1B filing process
Once you receive a conditional offer, ask the HR contact whether the district uses an in-house immigration attorney or an outside firm. Understanding their internal process early helps you anticipate document requests and avoid delays before USCIS deadlines.

Which visa types are commonly used for Speech Language Pathologist roles at Gwinnett County Public Schools?
H-1B is the primary visa type used for SLP roles at Gwinnett County. Speech Language Pathology qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines because the role requires a master's degree in communication sciences and disorders. Some candidates also enter on TN status if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and meet the qualifying credential requirements.
What qualifications does Gwinnett County Public Schools expect for sponsored Speech Language Pathologist positions?
You'll need a master's degree in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders, an ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, a valid Georgia SLP license, and a Georgia educator certificate. How does the H-1B filing timeline work for a school district like Gwinnett County?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registrations in March, with a lottery selection shortly after. If selected, petitions are filed by June for an October 1 start date.
