Get your teaching credentials verified early
Colorado requires substitute teachers to hold a valid educator license or substitute authorization from the Colorado Department of Education. Start the credential evaluation process before you apply, since processing delays can push back your start date.
Target the district's internal HR portal directly
Poudre School District posts substitute openings on its own careers site, not just aggregator boards. Apply directly through the district portal and note visa sponsorship in your cover letter so HR routes you to the right contact.
Understand how H-1B fits a substitute teaching role
Substitute teaching is classified as a specialty occupation only when the position requires a specific bachelor's degree in education or a related field. Make sure your degree field aligns with the role before USCIS receives the petition.
Time your sponsorship ask around the H-1B filing window
USCIS opens H-1B registrations in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you're in the offer stage in late fall or winter, frame the conversation around that calendar so HR understands the timeline and can plan budget approval.

Find Substitute Teacher at Poudre School District JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Poudre School District sponsor H-1B visas for Substitute Teachers?
Poudre School District has sponsored H-1B visas for substitute teaching roles, though it is not a high-volume H-1B employer for this position. Sponsorship is most likely when you have a qualifying education degree, a valid Colorado substitute authorization, and a demonstrated classroom record with the district. Raising sponsorship early in the hiring conversation gives HR time to work through the district's approval process before the USCIS registration window opens in March.
How do I apply for Substitute Teacher jobs at Poudre School District?
Applications go through the Poudre School District careers portal, where substitute positions are listed separately from full-time staff roles. You'll need a completed district application, proof of a valid Colorado substitute educator license or authorization, and a background check clearance. Mention your visa status and sponsorship needs clearly in your application materials so HR can flag your file appropriately from the start.
Which visa types are commonly used for Substitute Teacher roles at Poudre School District?
H-1B is the most structured path for long-term substitute teaching because it ties directly to employer sponsorship and a specialty occupation classification. F-1 OPT and CPT allow students to work as substitutes during or immediately after a qualifying education program, and TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible education roles. Each category has different work authorization timelines, so aligning your visa type with the district's hiring calendar is important.
What qualifications does Poudre School District expect for Substitute Teacher candidates?
At minimum, the district requires a valid Colorado substitute educator license, which generally needs at least 60 college credit hours or a bachelor's degree. For H-1B eligibility, a full bachelor's degree in education or a closely related field strengthens the specialty occupation argument considerably. Classroom experience, familiarity with the district's curriculum frameworks, and strong references from prior education roles all improve your standing when the district evaluates sponsorship candidates.
How do I find Substitute Teacher openings at Poudre School District that include visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Poudre School District's substitute roles filtered by visa sponsorship history, so you can see which openings are realistic targets rather than applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact. The district runs substitute hiring on a rolling basis, so checking regularly and applying as soon as positions open puts you ahead of candidates who wait for a formal recruitment cycle.
