Align your credentials to Colorado licensing requirements
Colorado requires a state-issued teaching license for classroom positions. Before applying, verify your degree and any international transcripts meet the Colorado Department of Education's equivalency standards, since PSD's HR team will confirm licensure eligibility before advancing your application.
Apply before the spring hiring window closes
School districts like PSD fill most Elementary Teacher roles between February and May for the following academic year. Submitting your application early gives the district enough runway to initiate H-1B sponsorship paperwork before the April USCIS filing deadline.
Confirm sponsorship intent during your initial interview
Public school districts handle visa sponsorship through district HR, not a third-party agency. Ask directly whether PSD's HR department will file the H-1B petition or coordinate with outside immigration counsel, so you understand who owns the filing timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open Elementary Teacher roles at PSD
PSD posts positions across multiple school sites, and openings can appear and close quickly. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Elementary Teacher listings at Poudre School District filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you focus only on roles actively open to sponsored candidates.
Understand how TN status works for education roles
Canadian and Mexican educators can pursue TN status under the teacher category, which requires proof of a bachelor's degree and a job offer from PSD in a preschool, primary, or secondary teaching role. DOL does not require a separate labor condition application for TN.
Bridge OPT gaps with documented substitute or tutoring experience
If your F-1 OPT start date doesn't align with PSD's school year calendar, documented part-time teaching, tutoring, or paraprofessional work in an educational setting keeps your OPT employment authorization valid and strengthens your candidacy for a full-time sponsored role.
