Align your credentials with FAA requirements
Many airline roles at United require FAA certificates, ratings, or medical clearances before a sponsorship conversation even begins. Confirm your foreign credentials translate to U.S. equivalents through the FAA's foreign pilot validation process before applying.

Find Airline at United Airlines JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does United Airlines sponsor H-1B visas for Airline roles?
Yes, United Airlines sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying airline roles, particularly those classified as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Corporate, technical operations, and engineering positions are the most common H-1B pathways. Direct flight crew roles have different regulatory structures, so the sponsorship pathway depends heavily on the specific position.
How do I apply for Airline jobs at United Airlines?
Applications go through United's careers portal, but not all posted roles are open to candidates needing sponsorship. The most efficient approach is to use Migrate Mate to identify United Airlines airline openings that are actively sponsoring, then apply directly through United's site. Tailoring your application to FAA or aviation-specific requirements strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Which visa types are commonly used for Airline roles at United Airlines?
United Airlines has sponsored H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and employment-based Green Cards (EB-2 and EB-3) for various roles. H-1B is most common for corporate and technical specialty occupations. TN is a faster option for Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying roles. F-1 OPT is frequently used as a bridge to H-1B for recent graduates entering airline operations or corporate functions.
What qualifications does United Airlines expect for sponsored Airline positions?
Requirements vary significantly by role. Technical and corporate airline positions typically require a relevant bachelor's degree and industry experience. Aviation operations roles may require FAA certificates, type ratings, or specific flight hours. United generally expects candidates to demonstrate that their foreign credentials and experience meet U.S. equivalency standards, particularly for roles where USCIS or DOL scrutinizes specialty occupation classification.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a United Airlines offer?
For H-1B, the standard USCIS processing timeline runs several months after the April lottery, with an October 1 start date. Premium processing can shorten adjudication to around 15 business days. TN processing is faster and can sometimes happen at the border. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship runs considerably longer given current DOL backlogs, often exceeding 18 months before I-140 filing.
