The system strives to become as good at preventing disease as it is at treating it. Founded in 1837, Cuyahoga County’s safety-net health system operates four hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centers.
Summary:
Ensures a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and hospital property by rounding in behavioral health units and the psychiatric emergency department, engaging patients, and promoting a safe and therapeutic environment while working in collaboration with clinical teams.
Qualifications:
Required:
- HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam
- 2 years of experience working in a Behavioral Health setting, corrections or healthcare facility, or other related experience
- Training in WELLE or obtained within 90 days of hire
- Possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or obtains it within 90 days of hire
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Capacity to manage stressful situations, problem-solve quickly, and react appropriately during psychiatric emergencies
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred:
- Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, or another related field from an accredited institution
- Experience working as a security guard
- Experience as a trainer or educator, particularly on topics regarding safety and de-escalation
