Overview:

This position compassionately delivers high-quality service and basic, as well as advanced pre-hospital patient care and transportation in a professional and caring manner.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluates each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
- Safely operates Company vehicles at all times.
- Ensures that seat belts are appropriately used when driving, and that the passenger is appropriately using seat belts.
- Ensures that patient is properly secured in the stretcher.
- Utilizes medical equipment and procedures including, but not limited to: defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
- Develops and utilizes triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
- Provides patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
- Lifts and moves patients as required to provide optimum care.
- Communicates with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
- Compassionately communicates with patient and loved ones to provide information and reassurance that care is being provided.
- Acts as team leader and takes responsibility for scene management when appropriate.
- Keeps current all required licenses and certifications.
- Communicates with dispatcher to receive and understand call data and customer feedback.
- Monitors and maintains the general condition of the unit, keeps it clean and stocked for optimal call response to maintain the image of the Company.
- Documents activities completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Participates in community programs to maintain Company image and establish strong community relations.
- Participates in quality assurance activities and as an experienced EMT, may assist in the orientation and development of new employees.
Qualifications:
Education
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Experience
Two years EMS experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience desired. Some previous healthcare work experience is desirable.
LICENSURE
Must possess current valid driver's license, driving record in compliance with Company policy regarding insurability. Must possess all required certifications including state license, CPR, ACLS, and PALS. Ability to obtain medical control from YNHH. National registry paramedic license preferred. After one year of paramedic experience, ability to complete SCT certification course.
