Basic Job Functions:
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety practices, policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. The Taylor Operator responsibilities include, but are not limited to the safe receipt, handling, loading, inventory, inspection, and storage of NYS products. In addition, the Taylor Operator will also be responsible for sorting and consolidating all products in any given area and the build up to ensure loads are secure for moving on any transporting equipment whether shuttle truck, rail, or truck. The Taylor Operator will communicate with RM1 & RM2 Teammates regarding products moving out of the mill, communicating with shuttle truck drivers for movement & loading of pulled material, as well as loads needing to be moved from one area of the yard to another. The Taylor Operator will be responsible for housekeeping of material and yard in any given area and the inspection and basic repairs of any broken racks.
Minimum Requirements:
- 1-year previous shipping experience in the steel industry
- 1-year heavy equipment operating experience, such as Taylor and/or Hyster Operator
Detailed Selection Criteria:
- Communication: The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand.
- Coordinating Information: Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
- Machines and Processes: Using either control mechanisms or direct activity to operate equipment and processes, this includes monitoring equipment and processes to ensure they are working properly.
- Inspecting: Inspecting equipment or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. This includes assisting in minor repairs of equipment.
- Teamwork: Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.
- Accountability / Dependability: Displays responsibility with work habits and has ability to hold others accountable for desired results. Being reliable, responsible, and committed to fulfilling obligations.
