This role sits at the center of construction execution, connecting the field, the office, and the design team to keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and according to plan. As a Project Engineer, you play a hands-on role in both field operations and project coordination, supporting the Superintendent while managing the flow of information that drives the job forward. You will be actively engaged on the jobsite, helping coordinate subcontractors, track progress, uphold safety standards, and ensure work is installed correctly. At the same time, you will manage critical project documentation, support cost control, and facilitate communication between all stakeholders. Your ability to stay organized, anticipate issues, and follow through on details directly impacts the project’s success.

This is a foundational role for building a career in construction leadership, offering exposure to both field and project management responsibilities while developing the skills needed to lead projects from preconstruction through closeout.

Key Responsibilities

Support Field Execution: Assist the Superintendent in coordinating daily construction activities, ensuring subcontractors are aligned with project plans and schedules.

Maintain Project Documentation: Prepare and manage Daily Construction Reports (DCRs), RFIs, submittals, and field documentation to ensure accurate and organized project records.

Promote Jobsite Safety: Participate in safety meetings, Pre-Task Planning, and daily safety activities while identifying and escalating potential hazards.

Enforce Safety Standards: Support implementation of EH&S policies and reinforce safe work practices across all field operations.

Coordinate Project Communication: Serve as a liaison between field teams, subcontractors, design professionals, and project leadership to resolve issues and maintain alignment.

Manage Contract Documents: Review drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to ensure construction aligns with contract requirements and project intent.

Oversee Submittals & Shop Drawings: Coordinate and review submittals for compliance, helping resolve discrepancies and maintain project flow.

Support Change Management: Assist in evaluating, pricing, and processing change orders while maintaining proper documentation and approvals.

Track Project Costs: Support budgeting efforts through cost tracking, invoice review, and Work-In-Place (WIP) documentation.

Monitor Materials & Logistics: Track deliveries, verify quantities, and assist with site logistics to ensure materials are available and properly managed.

Assist with Scheduling: Help maintain project schedules and short-interval plans, supporting pull planning and Lean construction practices.

Verify Work in Place: Perform quantity take-offs, field measurements, and verification of installed work to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Support Quality Control: Participate in inspections, track punch list items, and help ensure work meets quality standards.

Coordinate Inspections: Assist with permit tracking and scheduling inspections with local authorities and third-party inspectors.

Lead Meetings & Reporting: Help organize and participate in coordination meetings, maintaining logs and reports for safety, quality, and progress.

Facilitate Project Closeout: Support the closeout process by compiling as-builts, warranties, O&M manuals, and final documentation.

Develop Trade Partner Scopes: Assist in preparing scopes of work for subcontractor bidding and execution.

Leverage Technology & Lean Practices: Utilize tools such as BIM and Lean methodologies to improve coordination and project efficiency.

Build Strong Relationships: Establish professional working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and project team members.

Develop Leadership Skills: Support and mentor junior staff while continuing to build technical and field expertise.

Demonstrate Core Values: Lead with accountability, integrity, adaptability, and a strong willingness to learn and grow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
• 2–4 years of construction experience (internship or field experience strongly preferred)
• Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation
• Familiarity with construction safety practices and jobsite operations
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and exposure to project management or construction software
• Familiarity with BIM and Lean Construction concepts preferred
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, field-based environment
• Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and desire to learn and grow in construction
