The Federal Civilian business unit supports many customers spanning the federal, commercial, and nonprofit space. Our customers include NASA, the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Library of Congress, Health & Human Services, and the FDIC. We partner with these agencies to build new capabilities, deliver products, establish data as a strategic asset for informed decision-making, modernize legacy systems, and build the digital service infrastructure necessary to scale their mission impact.
Primary Responsibilities
DevOps Engineer III serves as an emerging individual contributor within a team, expanding your leadership, guidance, and mentoring skills. With the support and guidance of leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the goal of meeting scope, schedule, and delivery requirements. You will interact with stakeholders and utilize influential skills to drive improvements in DevOps processes and practices.
Primary expectations of a DevOps Engineer III include:
- Automate AWS infrastructure provisioning and administrative tasks using Terraform and serverless Lambda functions (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM roles)
- Develop and maintain Helm charts and declarative configurations to standardize EKS-based deployments
- Build reusable CI/CD templates in GitLab CI/Jenkins for adoption across 5+ AppDev workstreams
- Script automation in Python, Bash, or Go to replace repetitive manual steps with code
- Implement monitoring instrumentation and dashboards (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana); assist in configuring alerts and chat-based system notifications
- Work with developers to debug local environment setups and resolve application-level pipeline issues
- Support cost optimization through right-sizing, reserved instances, and storage audits
- Participate in on-call and production triage rotations, supporting Tier 2/3 incident response
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent additional experience in lieu of a degree
- Must meet federal suitability requirements and pass a background investigation as a condition of employment
- Hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda, and CloudWatch
- Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code provisioning and drift prevention
- Demonstrated experience building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines in GitLab and/or Jenkins
- Strong working knowledge of containerization using Docker and container orchestration on AWS ECS/EKS/Fargate
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices including SAST, dependency scanning, and automated vulnerability remediation
- Solid understanding of networking, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure fundamentals
- Hands-on Helm and Kubernetes (EKS) deployment experience
- Proficiency scripting in Python, Bash, or Go
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior work in federal environments or familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, or ATO processes
- Experience supporting SAFe or scaled Agile delivery teams as a platform or infrastructure provider
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration platforms
- Experience building automated continuous deployment workflows using Git
- Working knowledge of AWS networking (subnets, routing tables)
- Demonstrated deployment-time or cost reductions from automation

In support of various state and city equal pay transparency laws, Ad Hoc job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we've outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
