Position Summary
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all phases of construction projects from inception to completion. This role ensures that work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The Superintendent coordinates with general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, consultants, internal project teams, and field personnel, and serves as the primary on-site leader. This position supports the General Superintendent by managing day-to-day site operations, supervising installation teams, monitoring productivity, ensuring safety compliance, and resolving site issues throughout the full project lifecycle.
Essential Functions
Project Delivery & Site Leadership
- Implement and execute construction plans by managing site construction teams, including supervisors, stone installers, stone finishers, and laborers.
- Lead experienced field teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within program requirements, and within budget.
- Ensure all site activities are properly planned, coordinated, and executed in accordance with drawings, technical specifications, schedules, and project requirements.
- Coordinate daily site activities with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, general contractors, architects, and internal project teams.
- Participate in meetings with general contractors and architects to coordinate site management and resolve challenging installation issues.
- Analyze projects with the Project Manager, Design Coordinator, and Site Supervisors to identify, review, and resolve complex technical difficulties.
- Monitor team productivity to ensure work sequencing and installation activities are completed efficiently.
- Oversee and guarantee the availability of tools, machinery, equipment, and materials at the construction site.
- Responsible for site inspections and ensuring work is completed in accordance with quality and project standards.
Stone Production & Installation Coordination
- Follow up and supervise factory production in accordance with cutting lists, drawings, and site requirements.
- Monitor stone installation quality and ensure installation work meets project specifications and company standards.
- Coordinate site requirements with production, design, and project management teams.
- Identify and resolve installation issues promptly to avoid project delays.
- Support technical installation solutions and provide leadership to field teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Fully responsible for implementing and enforcing company Health & Safety policies.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, local regulations, and company safety standards.
- Ensure all team members are properly trained, wear appropriate PPE, and work under safe conditions at all times.
- Monitor safe operations on-site and address safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Identify and correct safety risks promptly.
- Report incidents, near misses, hazards, and corrective actions as required.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all field operations.
Team Management & Performance
- Lead, manage, and develop on-site teams, including supervisors, installers, finishers, and laborers.
- Oversee daily workforce allocation, attendance, productivity, and timesheets.
- Evaluate team performance and provide continuous feedback to support improvement.
- Lead employee training and development related to installation, site execution, quality, and safety.
- Motivate teams to continue growing and provide leading site solutions.
- Support recruitment, discipline, and dismissal recommendations for supervisors, stone installers, stone finishers, and laborers, in coordination with company leadership and Human Resources.
- Oversee staff contract terms and conditions in coordination with company leadership and Human Resources.
Budget, Labor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Ensure projects remain profitable by supporting budget oversight throughout the construction process.
- Monitor labor productivity, installation ratios, and resource utilization.
- Select labor subcontractors and negotiate rates per hour and square meter installation ratios in alignment with company objectives, subject to company approval processes.
- Coordinate labor subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards.
- Identify cost, schedule, and resource concerns and escalate appropriately.
Quality Control & Reporting
- Conduct site inspections to ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, standards, and client expectations.
- Monitor quality control throughout all phases of installation and construction.
- Create reports, maintain logs, and oversee timesheets.
- Track site progress, productivity, deficiencies, safety observations, and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to project status, manpower, deliveries, inspections, and site issues.
- Communicate project updates clearly to the General Superintendent, Project Manager, and other stakeholders.
Skills Required
- Project Management: Scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and site coordination.
- Construction Knowledge: Building codes, USA construction regulations, safety standards, materials, and construction methods.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and MS Project.
- Quality Control: Inspection, deficiency tracking, and compliance with project standards.
- Safety Oversight: OSHA compliance, PPE enforcement, risk identification, and mitigation.
- Leadership: Ability to direct crews, subcontractors, supervisors, installers, finishers, and laborers effectively.
- Communication: Clear reporting and coordination with internal teams, subcontractors, clients, architects, engineers, and general contractors.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to make quick and sound decisions under pressure.
- Time Management: Ability to keep projects on track and manage competing priorities.
- Conflict Resolution: Ability to handle site disputes diplomatically and professionally.
Experience Required
- Minimum five (5) years of construction site supervision experience.
- Experience managing installation teams, subcontractors, and field labor.
- Experience with stone installation, interior fit-out, luxury construction, commercial construction, or specialty construction preferred.
- Strong knowledge of site coordination, scheduling, safety, productivity tracking, and quality control.
- Demonstrated ability to manage field teams and resolve technical site issues.
Education Required
- Diploma, degree, or technical training in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent field experience will be considered.
Working Conditions/Environment
- Ability to work on active construction sites.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and access work areas throughout the day.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as required.
- Ability to wear required PPE.
- Ability to work in varying site and weather conditions.
- Ability to travel to project sites as required.
Work Schedule
8-10 hour workdays Monday through Friday, with frequent weekend work, as required by the project schedule.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 USD per annum commensurate to experience.
