The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection. The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing medical instruments and managing specimen processing. Additionally, this role requires effective communication skills to answer phones, schedule appointments, and coordinate with Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare staff. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall efficiency of the healthcare team.
We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Full Time, Medical Assistant at The Gastroenterology Group of Northern New Jersey in Englewood, NJ.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
- Assist healthcare providers, including Nurse Practitioners, during medical examinations and procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy and draw blood samples following proper protocols and safety standards.
- Process and label specimens accurately for laboratory testing and ensure timely delivery.
- Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment to comply with infection control guidelines.
- Manage patient communications by answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Support administrative tasks such as billing, coding, and inventory management as required.
- Take and record patients’ vital signs and medical histories accurately.
- Manage and update electronic health records while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Utilize critical thinking to support patient care and resolve issues that arise during appointments.
- Answer multi-line phone calls and handle patient inquiries professionally.
- Retrieve and respond appropriately to patient voicemails and secure messages; escalate to the nurse when needed.
- Schedule office visits, referrals, imaging studies, and lab work.
- Prior authorizations for imaging studies, medications, and lab tests.
- Generate result letters to patients/send portal messages.
- Enter recalls for future office appointments, imaging studies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Korean (Required).
- Knowledge of medical instruments, sterilization procedures, and vital signs measurement.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Strong communication skills and ability to handle patient interactions professionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working alongside Nurse Practitioners or in a similar clinical setting.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
- Additional certifications such as CPR or First Aid.
- Bilingual abilities to assist a diverse patient population.
- Prior experience in specimen processing and laboratory coordination.
