PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Maintain AISD grounds to a high standard of cleanliness in a condition of operating excellence at all times to include mowing, trimming, watering, picking up of trash and any other duties as assigned. Grounds Custodians are assigned to a high school campus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Licensure:
High school diploma or GED, preferred
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license, CDL license is desirable
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of landscape maintenance and related equipment, such as: riding and walk-behind mowers, weed eaters, vehicles with trailers, etc.
Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions
Ability to perform responsibilities under general supervision
Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
Capable of assessing safety conditions on site and able to take appropriate corrective action.
Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities under little supervision.
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools;
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching;
Lifting: Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to repair and/or move equipment and objects
Environment: Frequent changes in tasks; Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures and all weather conditions, dust, high noise level, vibration; exposure to chemicals including herbicides and fertilizers, fuels and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours;
Mental Demands: Frequent changes in task; maintain emotional control under stress
Regular attendance is an essential function.
Minimum Experience:
Two years of lawn maintenance experience, preferred.
One year experience in a leadership role in related field, preferred. Spray license, preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Keep assigned campus grounds neat and clean, including, but not limited to: lawn, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and play areas.
- Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from campus.
- Aid in maintaining a proper watering schedule.
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
- Report maintenance of tools and equipment and make recommendations of needed supplies to supervisor.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
