THE ROLE:
AMD is seeking a Product Development Engineer, Product Operations to join our Datacenter Platform Engineering Group. In this role, you will drive the development and manufacturing launch of cutting-edge datacenter hardware (server and rack systems). You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure new products meet design standards, quality targets, and production timelines.
This is a high-impact role offering the opportunity to be at the forefront of datacenter hardware innovation. If you are detail-oriented, quality-focused, and excited about coordinating complex technical projects from design through production, we encourage you to apply and join our team at AMD’s Datacenter Platform Engineering Group!
THE PERSON:
This position is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in product development, manufacturing processes, and cross-team project coordination, who is eager to take a visible role in launching high-quality datacenter products. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, quality-focused, and excited about coordinating complex technical projects from design through production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with diverse teams (Engineering Design, Materials, Rack/Server Systems Program Management, etc.) to align design, materials planning, manufacturing, and quality efforts throughout the product development lifecycle.
Design & DFM Reviews: Review design specifications, CAD drawings, and documentation to ensure compliance with design criteria, industry standards, and manufacturing capabilities. Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews to ensure products are optimized for efficient, high-quality production.
Project Scheduling & Readiness: Develop and maintain project schedules and implementation readiness timelines to support on-time new product introductions. Communicate project status and readiness milestones to customer program management teams and internal stakeholders.
New Product Introduction (NPI) Leadership: Drive NPI processes by facilitating and leading cross-functional problem-solving meetings with Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality Engineering teams. Proactively identify and resolve any design or production issues, ensuring smooth product launch and ramp-up.
Technical Design Reviews: Establish and lead regular development review meetings to deepen technical understanding and coordinate design changes. Provide guidance and feedback during design reviews, ensuring feasibility and alignment with manufacturing processes and capabilities.
Prototype & First Article Oversight: Oversee first article builds and First Article Inspections (FAI) for new products. Document FAI requirements, analyze initial build results, and implement improvements to validate product design and manufacturing readiness.
Production Support & Change Management: Coordinate engineering rework and change orders during the transition to volume production. Manage Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes effectively to incorporate design updates or fixes, minimizing impact on production schedules.
Assembly Process Validation: Validate and approve production assembly instructions (including labeling and work instructions) to ensure clarity and accuracy for manufacturing teams. Make sure assembly processes are properly documented and optimized for quality and efficiency.
Quality & Delivery Assurance: Ensure that final products meet all customer specifications and quality standards. Work closely with quality and production teams to confirm products are built correctly and delivered on schedule, fostering smooth ramp-up of new server and rack systems into high-volume production.
