The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff at our medical clinic. This role involves monitoring building access, patrolling the premises, responding to incidents, and enforcing clinic policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will exhibit professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure or emergency situations.
Reports to: Practice Supervisor and or the Facility and Fleet coordinator
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Conduct foot patrols around clinic premises (interior and exterior) on a regular basis to identify and report safety and security concerns.
- Report any property deficiencies such as repairs needed to the practice supervisor.
- Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, or emergency situations such as medical emergencies, aggressive behavior, or unauthorized access.
- De-escalate conflicts and assist in managing disruptive patients or visitors with professionalism and discretion.
- Uphold and enforce company policies, security protocols, and legal regulations.
- Enforce clinic policies regarding safety, parking, smoking, and visitor conduct.
- Work closely with medical and administrative staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment for patient care.
- Assist with crowd control and parking during busy periods or special events.
- Contact and coordinate with law enforcement or emergency responders when needed.
- Operate and maintain electronic security system.
- Ensure all entrances and exits are secure after operating hours.
- Report all pertinent issues and incidents to the Practice Supervisor, Compliance Coordinator, Facilities & Fleets Coordinator, or other Operations staff as appropriate.
- Maintain detailed incident and activity logs as required.
- Travel between clinic sites, community-based outpatient settings, or other locations as required.
- Mandatory overtime of weekly 2.5 hours to align with clinic/pharmacy schedule.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve program goals.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, subordinate staff, patient and the public. Skill in organizing work, delegating and achieving goals and objectives
- Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy towards patients, as well as strong communication skills, critical thinking skills, the ability to handle stressful situations, the capacity to function independently and the ability to document meticulously.
- A valid driver’s license with clear driving record.
ABILITIES
- Ability to manage and relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, as well as have a passion for working with at-risk, culturally diverse populations.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret program guidelines and service materials.
- Ability to make swift, informed decisions during incidents or emergencies, prioritizing safety and security.
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, and respond quickly in emergencies.
- Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet the organization’s needs/demands.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- Previous security or law enforcement experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Security guard license preferred or must secure license with in 30 days of hire date.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Seeing: Must be able to read hand-written and printed material, as well as use computer, fax machine, copier and other office equipment.
- Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate by phone and in person. Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
- Standing/Walking/Mobility: This position requires standing for prolonged periods of time, walking, and bending.
- Hands & Fingers: This position requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for easy and skillful use of hands when working with and performing normal office duties and responsibilities.
- Lifting: Occasional moving and lifting objects up to 60 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work will be performed in a wide range of settings including but not limited to, including the medical clinic; group/individual or family appointments; in community-based outpatient settings, community agencies; or in transport vehicles. Work areas are often noisy, irregular and unpredictable and can be stressful at times. Patients demonstrate varying levels of recovery and symptoms.
