ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Educational Media Equipment Technician — second shift- 9 month schedule to join our team.
The salary range for this position: $23.00 - 25.00

Reporting to the supervisor, the Educational Media Equipment Technician is responsible for the administrative and technical functions associated with receiving, inspecting, maintaining, testing, and issuing film, video, photography, lighting, audiovisual (AV), and related production equipment. This role supports students, faculty, and staff by ensuring the availability, functionality, and accurate tracking of equipment through the WebCheckout inventory management system. Responsibilities include equipment circulation, quality control testing, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and training of student employees and less-experienced staff members.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, 35-hour-per-week position based at either our Hillside or South campus. The position follows a 9-month academic-year schedule, working full-time from September through May, with summers off while retaining benefit eligibility.
The position is currently scheduled for the second shift, Monday through Friday, generally between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Scheduling may be adjusted based on operational needs. The role may also require occasional schedule flexibility, including working at alternate campus locations, on weekends, or with modified hours to support departmental operations and special projects.
Two positions are open. One for our Hilldise Campus and one for South.
Essential Functions
Customer Service — 45%
- Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty and staff
- Ensure equipment is issued only to those properly authorized
- Provide instructions on the proper and safe use of cameras, audio equipment, lighting systems, and audiovisual technology
- Regularly read and respond to emails and/or Teams messages from manager, supervisors, and ACCD patrons
- Assist in training new staff and student workers regarding departmental circulation usage and policies
- Understand all departmental equipment circulation policies, authorizations, and restrictions
Equipment Management — 50%
- Ensure all equipment leaving the E.M.E.C. is accounted for within WebCheckout
- Inspect, test, identify and document issues from all returned equipment, including loss or damage
- Cleaning and disinfecting of equipment
- Properly restock returned equipment
- Follow written procedures of induction of new equipment into the database
- Assist the Supervisor and Manger on incoming and outgoing lease equipment project
- Participate in cycle counts
- Complete minor troubleshooting and repairs of equipment
- Deliver, set up, and retrieve classroom and event equipment
- Ensure the daily checklist is completed, including, but not limited to: Reviewing scheduled classroom equipment deliveries/pickup, reviewing the equipment late list, and delegating student workers’ duties
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and follow all College policies, including safety protocols
- Participate in departmental meetings, safety initiatives, and continuous process improvement efforts
Non-Essential Duties — 5%
- Provide Audio Visual and Classroom support as needed
- Occasionally accompany Repair and Maintenance Coordinator on deliveries, and pick-ups using ACCD vehicles
- Identify and recommend potential improvements to workflow and operations
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience supporting, renting, maintaining, or managing professional film, photography, audiovisual, or production equipment
- Ability to learn and effectively use equipment management software such as WebCheckout or similar systems
- Experience working in a customer-facing environment, preferably within higher education, equipment services, production, or technical support
- Ability to apply appropriate judgment when reviewing student late fines and holds
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and complete assigned tasks on time
- Ability to handle a variety of complex problems and devise solutions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel, as well as basic Mac OS functionality
- Working knowledge of professional camera platforms such as ARRI, RED, Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Blackmagic, Nikon, Fuji, and film-based systems
- Experience with professional audio equipment, including microphones, recorders, cables, adapters, and accessories.
- Knowledge of lighting systems, power distribution, grip equipment, and production support tools
- Familiarity with audiovisual presentation equipment, projectors, displays, loudspeakers, and signal-routing accessories
- Ability to inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and perform minor repairs on equipment
- California driver license, and proof of insurance required as technicians are scheduled to deliver/pick-up equipment to/from repair vendors

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or institution

- Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification

Vision: Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, viewing a computer terminal and other normal office work with or without correction.
Hearing: Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal office communication or exchange ideas with or without correction.
