The Drone Survey Technician is a technical role responsible for overseeing drone-based surveying operations and 3D laser scanning for industrial projects. This position emphasizes hands-on field leadership and advanced data processing. This role requires both technical expertise and the physical ability to perform demanding fieldwork, ensuring the highest standards in industrial surveying and data integration for project success
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee drone field operations, including mission planning, safe flight execution, and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in all aspects of 3D laser scanning, including equipment setup, field data acquisition, and quality assurance.
- Ensure best practices in industrial surveying, including GPS/GNSS and Total Stations, and facilitate ongoing training in these methods.
- Collaborate with engineers, construction managers, and stakeholders to ensure data accuracy and support project planning.
- Utilize advanced surveying equipment and software, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and safety protocols.
- Up to 70% domestic travel.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- FAA Part 107 remote drone pilot license
- Experience with drone field operations, including mission planning, safe flight execution, and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with point cloud processing software and drone data platforms.
- Demonstrated experience in training and mentoring technical staff and end users.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of industry regulations, safety standards, and data management best practices.
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with 3D laser scanning, drone surveying, GPS/GNSS, and Total Stations.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or similar) for 3D modeling and topographic mapping.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. of equipment and materials.
- Able to stand and walk for 10 or more hours per day, often over uneven or rugged terrain.
- Comfortable working at heights up to 250 feet above grade, including climbing ladders or scaffolding.
- Proficient in basic tooling for equipment setup and safety.
- First aid training.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screening, as well as background check.
- Manual dexterity for handling survey instruments and computer equipment.
- Visual acuity and depth perception sufficient for detailed fieldwork and equipment operation.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow.
