Your role at BHSN:
As a Custodian at BHSN, you will assist in maintaining clean/sanitized environment for recipients and staff; insure professional appearance of assigned locations and protect assets of Agency through proper care/cleaning.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8 to 4pm

What your day might look like:
- Perform custodial work in multiple Agency offices, both inside and outside, as directed; and assist in preparing custodial schedule to be followed;
- Typical tasks include a combination of the following: sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, wax and polish floors use vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaning machines and other equipment as necessary;
- Clean and sanitize surfaces and common areas to help support a healthy and germ-free environment for staff and clients;
- Clean and sanitize restrooms daily or as needed; replenish bathroom supplies as necessary;
- Use ladders to dust and wash walls, clean ceilings, dust and polish light fixtures and wash windows (inside and outside);
- Wash and remove blinds/window treatments;
- Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas;
- Remove stains from rugs, carpets, drapes, furniture, walls and floors;
- Empty trash cans and remove cardboard, boxes, equipment and/or items labeled for discarding;
- Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass and trim, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks;
- Perform routine upkeep of exterior areas, green space and parking lots to include power washing, sweeping, shoveling, spreading salt, and landscaping;
- Deliver office supplies to appropriate departments and assist in other moving projects as assigned;
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies; Ensure that spaces are ready for the next business day, this may include, but is not limited to, taking out garbage, tidying furniture, and cleaning/sterilizing conference tables and chairs.
- Other duties as assigned
Your skills and qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Valid NYS driver’s license;
- Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and move furniture with assistance;
- Must be able to work while wearing protective gear, such as gloves, goggles, and face masks (Personal Protective Equipment);
- Ability to operate machinery, including but not limited to floor scrubber/buffer, riding and push lawn mowers, commercial vacuum cleaners, power washing equipment;
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in taking direction and working on a team;
- Ability to work independently required and take initiative to perform tasks not specifically assigned when determined to be necessary;
- Must be able to climb stairs/ladders;
- Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time;
- Must be able to lift, push/pull, stretch, bend, shovel, mow to accomplish janitorial/maintenance requirements.
