The Role:
As an Elementary Physical Education & Health Teacher, you will inspire students to develop healthy lifestyles, lifelong fitness habits, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility. You will provide engaging physical education and health instruction that supports students' physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development while fostering a safe, inclusive, and active learning environment.
You will implement standards-based instruction aligned with district curriculum, utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs, and collaborate with colleagues and families to support student success. This role requires a passion for student wellness, effective classroom management, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous professional growth.
Competencies for this Position:
- Holds a valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate Physical Education and Health endorsements.
- Demonstrates the ability to plan and deliver engaging, standards-based physical education and health instruction.
- Designs learning experiences that promote lifelong fitness, healthy decision-making, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Creates a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment that supports student success.
- Maintains safe instructional practices and properly supervises students while protecting district equipment and facilities.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all learners.
- Implements district curriculum with fidelity while supporting a guaranteed and viable curriculum.
- Utilizes a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to provide quality core instruction, differentiated learning opportunities, interventions, and progress monitoring.
- Uses student assessment data to monitor growth and adjust instructional practices.
- Maintains accurate student records, including interventions, progress monitoring, and social-emotional supports.
- Supports Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), restorative practices, and the development of the whole child.
- Builds positive partnerships with families through timely communication and parent conferences.
- Collaborates with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), grade-level teams, specialists, and district staff to improve instruction and student outcomes.
- Participates in Child Study Team (CST) meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, and other student support processes as needed.
- Integrates technology to enhance instruction, assessment, communication, and professional productivity.
- Demonstrates culturally responsive teaching practices and celebrates the diversity of all students.
- Participates in professional learning aligned with district initiatives, philosophies, and instructional goals.
- Contributes to a positive school culture while serving as a positive ambassador for Berrien Springs Public Schools.
- Attends staff meetings, serves on committees, and fulfills other professional responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Salary: $47,877 - $88,689 based on experience
