Sales & Community Engagement Manager
Classification: Exempt, Salary plus bonus/commission
Department: Sales & Community Engagement
Reports to: President/CEO
POSITION SUMMARY
The Sales & Community Engagement Manager is a full-time position with traditional and flexible work hours with some evening meetings, events, and travel outside of regular office hours.
The Sales & Community Engagement Manager provides leadership and direction for BBB's Sales & Community Engagement Department. This position is responsible for developing and executing departmental sales strategies, supervising department personnel, establishing performance expectations, and ensuring achievement of accreditation, retention, advertising, sponsorship, and community engagement goals. The Manager exercises independent judgment in directing department operations while also maintaining strategic relationships within the business community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (not an all-inclusive or exhaustive list)
Administrative and Managerial Duties
- Leads and manages the Sales & Community Engagement Department to achieve organizational goals.
- Recruits, hires, trains, coaches, evaluates, disciplines, and when appropriate recommends termination of department personnel.
- Assigns work, establishes priorities, and directs daily workflow of department staff.
- Conducts performance evaluations and provides ongoing coaching and professional development.
- Develops departmental goals, sales strategies, and performance standards.
- Exercises independent judgment regarding staffing, workflow, scheduling, customer issues, and departmental priorities.
- Performs tasks as requested by BBB senior leadership team.
- Works with BBB Leadership to create future metrics for ongoing success measurement.
- Maintains timelines.
- Attends BBB and Foundation events as needed.
Community Engagement & Brand Representation
- Maintains a public presence and builds relationships with community members; participates in external events when possible.
- Serves as a professional and enthusiastic ambassador for BBB and its programs.
- Develops, implements, and coordinates community participation initiatives and creative outreach strategies to engage the business community.
- Works to create interest in BBB projects, plans, and programs.
- Collaborates with BBB staff to maximize public relations efforts.
- Works strategically to create opportunities for BBB brand awareness.
- Generates accreditation leads through involvement in community events and networking.
Business Development & Sales
- Personally participates in prospecting and business development efforts as necessary to achieve departmental objectives.
- Processes and onboards prospects that apply and pay online.
- Ensures at least 18 new accreditation applications are submitted monthly for the department.
- Helps BBB maintain a 90% plus accreditation retention rate.
- Meets all established sales objectives.
Advertising Sales & Account Management
- Identifies non-dues revenue streams including sponsorship and advertising for BBB.
- Increases non-dues revenue over a 12-month period through sponsorship and advertising opportunities.
- Leads advertising sales initiatives and personally assists with key sales opportunities.
- Ensures that only factual information about BBB programs is communicated.
- Completes all required paperwork and order confirmations.
- Works with businesses to obtain all required artwork for advertising campaigns.
- Contacts BBB Accredited Businesses participating in advertising programs prior to advertising expiration dates to secure renewal payments.
- Is responsible for all assigned outstanding accounts receivable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of office administrative procedures and ability to operate and troubleshoot most standard office equipment.
- Highly proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally (in person and via phone) and in writing.
- High level of interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive information and documents with confidentiality
QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS NECESSARY:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Proven sales and marketing experience
PREFERRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, advertising or comparable discipline
- Demonstrated Outbound Call Center or Telephone Sales experience
- Working knowledge of SEO
- Experience in digital and print media
