Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Life Skills Coach/Residential Counselor coaches, trains, cares for and supervises participants housed in the Transitional Housing to Rapid Rehousing (TH-RRH) program by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Create a home like environment assisting in meal planning/preparation and chores.
• Utilize trauma informed practices and motivational interviewing when interacting with clients and creating culture of program.
• Assist young adults in learning or improving independent living skills.
• Assist youth with developing educational and vocational plans.
• Ensure program outcomes and goals are met per contract.
• Utilize community resources to meet the needs of clients in the program.
• Maintain statistical data and complete reports as appropriate. Enter ALL client data into AWARDS and HMIS as required by Santa Cruz County funding standards.Must maintain AWARDS and HMIS, keeping all client information and data updated
• Attend agency and other program meetings as appropriate.
• Participate in agency Program Quality Improvement activities and initiatives.
• Participate in agency Safety initiatives and proactively report safety issues to management immediately.
• Complete program and financial documentation according to program and agency standards.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, get along with coworkers and deal effectively and professionally under pressure.
• Handle crisis situations as they may arise.
• Complete shift reports daily.
• Monitor housing conditions (residence) to ensure safety and/or cleanliness issues are addressed in a timely manner.
• Follow up with residents about violations and any non-compliance with program expectations.
• Monitor chores and support clients to be successful to complete chores.
• Regular attendance and punctuality is a requirement of the position.
• Provides life skills coaching, supervision, and care for young adults and their families in the TH-RRH program.
• Organize activities/events for the clients to participate in
• Serves as an appropriate role model for young adults and their families.
• Provide individual support to residents as needed, as well group activities such as cooking classes, parenting coaching, interview coaching and developing other life skills.
• Ensure safety of young adults and families in programs.
• Gives instructions to clients regarding desirable health and personal habits.
• Support program structure, communicate with clients if structure is not being followed, follow-up with consistently and as appropriate.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree (B.A. B.S.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent.
• Experience working with culturally diverse youth required.

Certificates & Licenses:
Driving is a requirement of the job (valid California driver's license with access to a personal vehicle that can be used for company business and current personal automobile insurance).

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
• Required to work swing shift schedule
• Comprehend and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, email management, internet navigation, and operating system navigation required.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish speakers are highly desired.
• Navigate agency databases such as AWARDS, HMIS, and Gmail.
• Fingerprint/background check and TB test required.

Physical Demands:

• Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time.
• Ability to move around the shelter, office, and stairs.
• Ability to move items up to 15lbs when necessary.

Work Environment:

• The noise level is usually moderate.
• Persons of all ages including infants in shelter at any given time.
• Located on a busy, high traffic street.
• Will be working independently as well as in a team.

Salary Range:
$24.00 - $27.00 per hour.
