Job Summary: The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace safety and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to promote a culture of safety across the organization. This role works closely with leadership, supervisors, and employees to identify risks, reduce incidents, and ensure a safe working environment.

Main Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with OSHA, VOSH, and other applicable regulations.
- Maintain all required safety programs, including LOTO, machine guarding, chemical safety, etc.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk analyses to identify potential safety issues.
- Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Facilitate safety training programs, including onboarding and ongoing education for employees and management.
- Monitor compliance with safety standards and maintain required documentation and records.
- Manage and update emergency preparedness plans and coordinate drills (e.g., fire, evacuation, severe weather).
- Partner with HR and leadership to promote a proactive safety culture and employee engagement in safety initiatives.
- Analyze safety metrics and trends, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections or audits.
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
- Manage a team of safety coordinators in day-to-day campus activities.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and best practices in occupational health and safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in workplace safety, preferably in manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environments.
- Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) and OSHA 30 training preferred.
- Ability to be on call to support the organization, when needed, across multiple shifts.
Working Environment
This position operates in both office and production environments. The role requires frequent exposure to varying environmental conditions, including outdoor weather, temperature extremes, wet or humid settings, and production floor hazards. The incumbent may work near moving mechanical equipment, at elevated heights, and around fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals. Exposure to loud noise levels is common, and proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.

- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, and use of hands to handle equipment.
- Regular bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching.
- Ability to navigate stairs and uneven surfaces.
- Capability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Occasional sensory duties such as tasting, touching, or smelling when required.
