POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Community Engagement Manager
Reports To: Director of Resource Development
Status: Full Time
Location: Sonoma County (Regular travel across assigned communities required)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Engagement Manager plays a key role in advancing BGCSM’s mission by strengthening community visibility, engagement, and support across key Sonoma County communities. Reporting to the Director of Resource Development, this role partners closely with advisory boards, volunteers, donors, and community leaders to expand awareness of Club programs and services, mobilize local champions, and grow engagement in the full mission of the organization.
This position supports the Director of Resource Development in positioning board members and community leaders to cultivate and solicit philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and public partners. The ideal candidate brings strong relationship-building skills, a well-established local network (Northern or Southern Sonoma County), and a passion for connecting communities to the needs of kids and families.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Awareness & Engagement
- Develop and implement strategies to increase community awareness of Club services and resources across five key communities.
- Serve as a community liaison and organizational spokesperson at local events, meetings, and forums.
- Build collaborative partnerships with community agencies, civic groups, and local leaders to expand reach and impact.
- Foster community engagement in BGCSM’s mission through advocacy, outreach, and signature events.
Advisory Board & Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, engage, and support Club Advisory Boards in Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Windsor, Healdsburg, and Cloverdale.
- Prepare meeting materials, attend board meetings and retreats, produce meeting minutes, and staff appropriate committees.
- Ensure advisory board members are informed, connected, and positioned to support BGCSM’s outreach and development efforts.
Special Events & Campaigns
- Manage board and volunteer engagement in fundraising and community events.
- Partner with the Development and Marketing teams to expand participation in approximately six signature events and campaigns annually.
Donor Relations
- Ensure timely, accurate, and meaningful acknowledgment of donors through written communications and recognition opportunities.
- Support donor engagement activities and community-based recognition events, as appropriate.
Marketing & Communications Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop community-focused engagement strategies across social media, digital channels, traditional media, and local outreach efforts.
- Support consistent messaging that reflects BGCSM’s mission, values, and impact across all communities.
Administrative & General Support
- Maintain accurate records and tracking related to boards, volunteers, donors, and community engagement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Development and Executive teams.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university required.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in community engagement, development, nonprofit outreach, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, project management, and follow-through skills.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to quickly learn new systems, including DonorPerfect or similar CRM platforms.
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Work environment noise level is typically low to moderate.
- Regular travel within Sonoma County required.
