JOB The Assistant Director of Programs & Recreation Impact provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for parish-wide recreation programs and services that extend beyond individual facilities or regions. This position is responsible for ensuring programs are aligned with BREC's mission, strategic priorities, community needs, accreditation standards, and industry best practices while maximizing community impact and service excellence. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Education Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Preferred : Master's degree from an accredited college or university

Area of Study (major) Preferred: Recreation Management, Education, Business Administration, or a closely related field.

Certification(s) Required: Professional membership with NRPA within 30 days of hire.
Preferred: Certified Park and Recreation Professional through NRPA

License(s) Required: Valid LA Driver's License

Years of Relevant Work Experience: Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in education and public programming with at least three (3) years in supervisory capacity.
Preferred: Ten (10) or more years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of parks and recreation administration, program development, community engagement, public-sector service delivery, and recreation services for diverse populations.
• Knowledge of CAPRA accreditation standards, program evaluation, performance measurement, risk management, operational best practices, and continuous improvement principles.
• Skills in strategic planning, program management, staff supervision, budget administration, performance management, and organizational leadership.
• Skill in analyzing data, evaluating program effectiveness, identifying service gaps, and implementing improvements that enhance community impact and operational efficiency.
• Ability to develop and maintain consistent standards, procedures, documentation systems, training programs, and quality-control measures across multiple program areas.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with staff, community organizations, public agencies, volunteers, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate effectively through reports, presentations, recommendations, and public interactions.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve complex operational challenges, foster accountability, and lead change through collaboration and innovation.
• Understanding recreation’s role in promoting health, wellness, equity, inclusion, community engagement, lifelong learning, volunteerism, and quality of life.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Full-time position; schedule may vary within framework of 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; lunch break daily; Some evening and weekend hours as necessary; overtime as required.
