Job Description Summary
The Assistant Clinical Manager is responsible for assisting in day-to-day clinical operations for the branch to ensure a seamless and organized home care system. The Assistant Clinical Manager maintains comprehensive working knowledge to assist in training new clinical staff, and to serve as a resource for field staff.
Essential Job Functions/ Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of competencies and independently identifies training gaps, recommending adjustments to competency processes.
- Educates staff during onboarding, orientation, and initial training, determining appropriate instructional approaches based on clinical and operational needs.
- Ensures initial and annual competencies are completed timely and assesses compliance risks requiring escalation or process improvement.
- Provides oversight and guidance to clinical staff, coordinating daily workflow and ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. Exercises independent judgment in directing work, resolving issues, and adjusting staffing resources.
- Provides direction and coordination of in-service education and evaluates effectiveness of staff development programs.
- Collaborates with Clinical Managers to ensure documentation accuracy and uses discretion in identifying trends requiring corrective action or workflow changes.
- Educates and implements monitoring activities for safety, risk management, and infection control, exercising judgment when determining appropriate corrective responses.
- Coordinates new-hire training including EMR, orientation materials, and supplies, and makes recommendations to management on training enhancements.
- Acts as a resource for clinical procedures and supports clinical decision-making requiring specialized professional knowledge.
- Collaborates with nursing supervisors on employee orientation and competency programs, contributing to development and refinement of departmental training strategies.
- Maintains competency records as part of the PI plan and identifies systemic issues requiring administrative review.
- Acts as a clinical resource, applying advanced clinical judgment when assisting staff.
- Assists with patient visits as needed, using professional discretion in addressing complex patient situations.
- Assists with administrative and clinical call on rotation, independently triaging and resolving issues without immediate supervision.
- Supports community education activities and serves as a representative of the organization in professional and public settings.
- Conducts documentation review training and assists QA with chart audits, identifying compliance deficiencies and recommending operational improvements.
- Gathers and interprets patient care summary information for Case Managers and provides insight to support care-coordination decisions.
- Participates in case conferences and ensures regulatory compliance through analytical review and professional judgment.
- Works with Scheduling and Clinical Manager to ensure staff utilization and provides recommendations regarding workload balancing and resource allocation.
- Reviews missed/unstaffed visits and makes operational recommendations to prevent LUPAs and improve efficiency.
- Approves and tracks supply orders and exercises discretion in determining branch inventory needs.
- Communicates schedules with triage/on-call staff and implements necessary adjustments based on staffing and clinical demands.
- Performs referral QA review, independently evaluating appropriateness and identifying compliance or safety concerns.
- Supports quality assurance and PI programs, contributing to development, evaluation, and implementation of improvement initiatives.
Job Qualifications:
- Licensed Vocational Nurse with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the state
- Three (3) to five (5) year's clinical nursing experience. (An emphasis in home care nursing is preferred).
- Excellent understanding of performance improvement, quality assurance, and utilization management.
- Is self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Has excellent coordination and communication skills.
- Demonstrates autonomy, organization, assertiveness, flexibility, and cooperation in performing job responsibilities.
- The ability to sit occasionally for 1-3 hours.
- The ability to frequently stand for 3-6 hours.
- The ability to occasionally drive/ operate foot control for 1-3 hours.
- The ability to walk intermittently on level and or unlevel surface for less than 1 hour.
- The ability to intermittently bend or climb for less than 1 hour.
- The ability to occasionally twist, kneel, crouch and crawl for 1-3 hours.
- The ability to lift 50 pounds frequently for 3-6 hours.
- The ability to lift greater than 50 pounds occasionally for 1-3 hours.
- The ability to carry up to 50 pounds frequently for 3-6 hours.
- The ability to carry greater than 50 pounds occasionally for 1-3 hours.
- The ability to push up to 50 pounds frequently for 3-6 hours.
