The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our Out of School Time team this school year as an Out of School Time Education Assistant! The Special Education staff will support services (academic, functional, and transition instruction) to eligible students in the special education setting, and will provide targeted support and instruction to students with disabilities in the general education setting. Work is performed under the supervision of the Community Schools Site Coordinator and Instructional Lead.

Sites, Days, and Hours:
Program starts 9/21/2026
Positions available at Brooklyn Center Elementary (BCE) and Brooklyn Center Middle & High School (BCS). Available shifts: M-Th, 3:00-4:15pm at BCE / M-Th, 6:00-7:45am and 3:30-5:00pm at BCS. Shifts are flexible and will be scheduled with the Site Coordinator.
Pay: $20.47- $25.69/hour based on experience and education
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Assist students with instructional and non-instructional activities, including homework, classroom assignments, toileting, feeding, dressing, mobility, etc.
- Establishes positive relationships with students and acts as a role model for appropriate social skills and behaviors in all situations.
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
- Helps teacher(s) manage student behavior by applying proactive strategies.
- Assumes safety responsibilities for students in all environments.
- Reviews student Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).
- Reinforces instruction through individual or small group activities; keeps students focused on tasks assigned by teacher(s).
- Assists students with learning organizational and computer literacy skills.
- Maintains service logs and records on students.
- Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials in order to prevent injuries and damage.
- Observes students' performance and records relevant data to assess progress.
- Provides disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and, Abilities Preferred:
- Thorough knowledge of the English language structure and content, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- General knowledge of curriculum and training design principles and methods.
- General knowledge of teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
- Experience in the use of computers and other technology equipment.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively, both orally and in written form.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, officials, associates, parents, and the general public.
Qualifications:
- Experience working as an educational or teacher's assistant, education support professional, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Physical Requirements: Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; may be required to wear a mask and other personal protective equipment in a pandemic outbreak; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic).
