Job Description:
Summary
The position works independently to managing all activities of the Neuroscience graduate program and the NIH graduate program which is an interdepartmental program involving multiple departments at Brown University and NIH. Provides administrative, organizational and financial management for both Neuro grad programs and the directors. Serves as primary point of contact for external and internal program constituencies which include students, faculty, alumni, visitors and NIH members. The incumbent works directly with the Neuroscience Education Manager, NSGPP and the NIHGPP program directors as well as the Graduate and postdoc office in the division to implement curricular directives and mandates to meet program goals.
The Graduate Program Coordinator will also provide financial management for the 2 graduate programs and maintain graduate student appointments in GSIM. They will serve as a contact and liaison for graduate students, provide information and referrals to students as they pertain to financial support, information, housing, transportation, insurance, etc. The graduate Program Coordinator counsels students, faculty members, and other administrative staff in areas such as: recruitment, academic requirements, degree requirements, completion rates and administrative resources. This position develops and maintains key relationships with various University partners. works in conjunction with the program committees and DGS to support student led events, student social events and maintain alumni network. Additionally, this role supports three annual conferences and the annual recruitment process Maintains tables for training grant submissions and annual reports.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
Required Bachelor’s Degree with 1-2 years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
Proficiency in Office programs, web tools, Google tools and an ability to rapidly learn new technology/programs
Job competencies
Ability to work independently and juggle multiple tasks, deadlines and priorities.
Strong organizational, administrative and time management skills
Strong computer skills, prefer Experience/competence with Workday, GSIM, Banner and College.net or equivalent systems.
Expertise in handling assembling and complex spreadsheet files
Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-oriented environment
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) to elicit and disperse information; to present information (including data) and communications in a clear and concise manner, to analyze and negotiate complex issues
Ability to understand and navigate a complex campus environment, thereby creating a network of effective and collaborative connections across campus offices.
Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a multi-tasking environment while maintaining careful attention to detail.
Flexibility to work weekends/nights based on event needs
