This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving difficult subsurface problems, leading multidisciplinary investigations, and managing projects from proposal through construction.
This is not a traditional geotechnical consulting role focused solely on commercial developments. We are looking for an engineer who has experience with large-scale infrastructure, environmental geotechnics, earth structures, or mine-related projects and wants greater technical responsibility, client interaction, and leadership opportunities within an employee-owned consulting firm.
What You'll Do

-
Perform and review geotechnical engineering analyses including:
- Slope stability
- Settlement
- Bearing capacity
- Seepage and dewatering
- Earth retaining systems
- Deep and shallow foundations
- Embankment and earth structure evaluations
- Support projects involving coal combustion residuals (CCR), mine reclamation, tailings storage facilities, ash ponds, containment structures, and environmental geotechnical engineering.
- Evaluate dams, levees, embankments, and other critical earth structures for stability and long-term performance.
- Prepare geotechnical engineering reports, calculations, specifications, and technical recommendations.
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and construction documentation.
- Coordinate field personnel, drilling contractors, laboratories, and specialty subcontractors.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, profitability, and client communication.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
- Participate in business development, proposal preparation, and client relationship management.
Desired Experience
We are interested in engineers who have experience with several of the following:
- Large-scale geotechnical investigations
- Mining or mineral processing facilities
- Tailings storage facilities
- Coal combustion residual (CCR) facilities
- Environmental geotechnical engineering
- Dam safety or embankment evaluations
- Earth structures
- Transportation infrastructure
- Industrial or power generation facilities
- Deep foundation systems
- Instrumentation monitoring
- Construction Quality Assurance (CQA)
- Geotechnical risk assessment
Technical Skills
Experience with many of the following is highly valued:
- GeoStudio
- Settle3D
- gINT
- OpenGround
- CPT and SPT interpretation
- Seepage analyses
- Slope stability modeling
- Foundation design
- Dewatering evaluations
- Earthwork engineering
- Instrumentation monitoring systems

- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Approximately 7-12 years of geotechnical consulting experience.
- Experience managing engineering projects from investigation through construction.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Ability to travel periodically to project sites throughout the Southeast and other regions as needed.
Why BLE?
At BLE, you'll work on projects that extend far beyond traditional site development. Our engineers support major transportation improvements, industrial facilities, environmental restoration, mining operations, critical infrastructure, and challenging geotechnical assignments requiring sound engineering judgment and innovative problem solving.
As an employee-owner, you'll have the opportunity to influence the firm's direction while continuing to develop technically and professionally. We invest in our people, encourage technical excellence, and provide a collaborative environment where experienced engineers can build long-term careers.
