Lead Dental Assistant (Full-Time)
Chicago Children's Surgery Center is seeking an experienced, motivated, and patient-focused Lead Dental Assistant to join our growing team. This leadership role is ideal for a Dental Assistant who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care while mentoring teammates, supporting daily clinical operations, and helping maintain an efficient, high-performing surgical center.
As the Lead Dental Assistant, you will work closely with our dentists, anesthesia team, Nurse Manager, and clinical staff to ensure seamless patient care and operational excellence. In addition to providing chairside assistance, you will serve as a clinical resource for the dental assistant team by helping train new staff, maintaining compliance with infection control standards, managing clinical inventory, and supporting day-to-day workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support the Dental Assistant team by fostering a collaborative and patient-centered work environment.
- Assist dentists during surgical and dental procedures, including preparing patients, setting up equipment, and anticipating provider needs.
- Train and onboard new Dental Assistants while reinforcing clinical best practices and company policies.
- Ensure treatment rooms are properly stocked, organized, and prepared for daily procedures.
- Take and process dental radiographs in accordance with provider instructions and state regulations.
- Prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment following OSHA, CDC, and infection prevention protocols.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the ordering and organization of dental supplies and equipment.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with clinical documentation as needed.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative instructions and proper oral health practices.
- Assist with scheduling, workflow coordination, and daily staffing needs to promote efficient clinic operations.
- Serve as a resource for troubleshooting clinical issues and supporting continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or leadership team.
Qualifications
- Active Dental Assistant Certification/Licensure (as required by the State of Illinois).
- Active Dental Radiology (X-Ray) Certification.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Ability to obtain ACLS certification within six months of hire.
- Minimum of 2 years of Dental Assistant experience; pediatric and/or surgical experience preferred.
- Previous leadership, mentoring, or Lead Dental Assistant experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of dental procedures, instrumentation, infection control, and sterilization protocols.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead by example while fostering teamwork and accountability.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and maintaining patient confidentiality.
