You will perform clinical tasks such as venipuncture and assist with patient care, while also managing administrative duties to ensure an efficient and positive experience for every patient. We are looking for a collaborative team player who is willing and able to obtain BAT and DOT certifications upon hire, who is available to float between our SF/San Mateo clinics, and grow with our practice.
What you'll do
- Perform clinical duties including rooming patients, taking vital signs, documenting medical histories, and assisting providers with exams and procedures.
- Perform venipuncture and collect other laboratory specimens according to established protocols and safety standards.
- Support both back office responsibilities such as medication administration per provider orders, point-of-care testing, and specimen handling.
- Handle front office duties including patient check-in and check-out, appointment scheduling, verifying insurance, and collecting co-pays.
- Provide responsive support in an urgent care environment, helping prioritize patients based on acuity and assisting with time-sensitive procedures.
- Collaborate closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient clinic operations.
- Cross-train and work across both Primary Care and Urgent Care settings as needed, adapting to varying workflows, patient needs, and provider styles.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with practice policies and regulatory requirements.
- Follow infection control, safety, and quality protocols to maintain a clean and safe clinical environment.
- Obtain and maintain BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) and DOT (Department of Transportation) certifications within the required timeframe after hire, and perform related testing once certified.
- Float between up to four South Bay clinic locations based on staffing needs and schedule assignments
- Demonstrate initiative by identifying workflow improvements, assisting teammates proactively, and supporting process changes.
- Provide compassionate, professional, and culturally sensitive patient interactions, ensuring privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical training.
- Current Medical Assistant certification or registration (or eligibility and willingness to obtain within organizational timeframe, if applicable by state/organization policy).
- Demonstrated experience performing venipuncture safely and accurately in a clinical setting.
- Prior experience in urgent care or a similarly fast-paced outpatient clinical environment strongly preferred.
- Comfort and competency in both front office (administrative) and back office (clinical) medical assistant responsibilities.
- Willingness and ability to cross-train and work in both Primary Care and Urgent Care settings as operationally needed.
- Ability and commitment to obtain BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) and DOT (Department of Transportation) certifications upon hiring within the specified timeframe.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with providers, nurses, and administrative staff.
- Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and flexibility in adapting to changing patient volumes and priorities.
- Basic proficiency with computers and electronic health records (EHR); ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a professional demeanor and patient-focused attitude.
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain on your feet for extended periods and to lift or move patients and equipment as required for the role.
