CFH is seeking a Shift Supervisor (F80 required) for its Safe Haven/Shelter.
The Shelter/Safe Havens operates under contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and, as a contract agency, has reporting responsibilities to DHS and is subject to inspections and audits by DHS, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City.
Shelter/Safe Havens is a shelter residence for chronically homeless single men which operates under contract to the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and as a contract agency, has reporting responsibilities to DHS and is subject to inspections and audits by DHS, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the Coalition for the Homeless of New York City.
Summary: Under the direction of the Operations Coordinator, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for assuring the general welfare, security and safety of the residents, staff, and volunteers, and facility. This position is responsible for the supervision of up to eight persons, including program aides Security and/or volunteers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SHIFT SUPERVISOR
- Provide coverage for the general welfare and safety of the shelter residents, staff and volunteers.
- Provide crisis prevention and intervention as needed.
- Complete routine resident and facility checks to ensure that residents are not at risk and that the facility is free of potential hazards (leaks, fire, destruction of property, etc.).
- Perform daily inspection of resident’s rooms.
- Conduct rounds throughout the shift of the entire facility.
- Ensure nightly head count is completed (evening shift) and maintain CARES reports as assigned.
- Record incidents and residents’ grievances appropriate in logbook and on incident report.
- Assign work-related projects to program aides, security, and maintenance as needed.
- Inspect all cleaning and service chores assigned to program aides to ensure completion.
- Conduct regular fire drills during day, evening, night and weekend shifts ensuring that all staff and residents follow procedure.
- Interact with NYPD, EMS, NYFD, and know when it is appropriate to make emergency calls.
- Interview and train program aides as directed by the Shelter Director.
- Provide coverage on an emergency basis when needed.
- Arrange for coverage for current or following shift when necessary, including shift supervisor, program aides, security, or maintenance.
- Supervise program aides to ensure that they are meeting goals and performing their duties.
- Ensure that all necessary information is communicated to program aides as policy and procedures change.
- Assist as needed in completing documentation relevant to resident and facility reporting.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS OF A SHIFT SUPERVISOR:
Educational Requirements:
- F80 required
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
- Driver's License (Preferred)
- US work authorization (Preferred)
- Must be vaccinated.
EXPERIENCE OF A SHIFT SUPERVISOR
- Minimum two years’ experience working in a residential facility, preferably experience working with dual-diagnosed individuals, mental health and substance abuse issues, and some supervisory experience.
- Must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both written and oral.
- Ability to handle and prevent crisis situations with minimal supervision.
- Must have some computer skills and be able to formulate incident reports and document resident engagements in CARES.
- Ability to work with clientele that have special needs and aid with respect and compassion.
- Help to foster and to promote a positive and harmonious atmosphere at the shelter.
