Environmental/working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a medical office environment. Work involves frequent contact with staff and the public. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a physician’s office environment.
Physical Capabilities:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds dead weight depending on the individual’s work assignments on a daily basis.
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach above shoulders depending on the individual’s work assignments on a daily basis.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, a minimum of eight hours a day, depending on the individual’s work assignments on a daily basis.
- Ability to see, hear, speak, interact, read, write, and type sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Must be independently mobile on all surfaces and situations depending on the individual’s works assignments on a daily basis and be able to move safely about the work area.
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations as needed, including lifting ability needed for patient safety.
- Must have bilateral use of hands for repetitive fine manipulation.
- Must have the physical stamina to work at least eight hours per day.
Essential Job Functions:
- Primary Duties:
- Escort patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times. Provide assistance as needed, to allow patients to get on and off the examination table in a safe manner.
- Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past medical history, family history, and history of allergies and medications. Update medications list and allergy list on all patients at each appointment.
- Act as scribe for provider using the EMR. Must be able to document with correct grammar and mastery of spelling of medical terminology.
- Obtain proper informed consents as directed by provider.
- Assist provider with biopsies and surgical procedures such as skin excision, ED&C, cryotherapy, and incision and drainage.
- Educate patient as required after provider establishes the treatment plan. Ensure that patient understands the treatment plan, understands the proper use of their prescribed medications, and understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office. Answer patient questions about what they should anticipate after surgery or treatment.
- Perform office procedures such as phlebotomy, suture removal, dressing changes, allergen patch testing, and biologic injections, without direct provider supervision after appropriate training.
- Completely and accurately fill out all required pathology and laboratory requisition documents for patients as required by provider.
- Answer all telephone inquiries from patients, their families, or primary care physicians concerning treatment, surgery, or other related concerns within one business day.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Participate in the training of new Medical Assistants/staff as needed or required.
- Secondary Duties
- Clean and restock all treatment rooms between patients including sinks and equipment, weekly full room deep cleanings.
- Organize sample drug inventory.
- Perform all duties related to medical instrument cleaning and sterilization.
- Check calibration of equipment and make adjustments or call for service, as necessary.
- Notify designated person of supplies with low stocking levels to avoid shortages.
- Check that all equipment is where it belongs.
- At the end of the day, turn off power to all equipment and cover equipment as needed.
- Perform any other duties and tasks as requested by providers, site supervisor, or
Clinical practice manager to maintain efficiency of the office.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Medical Assistant, LPN, Associate’s degree or higher required.
- Dermatology experience preferred.
To assist the dermatologist or dermatology mid-level in patient care by preparing exam rooms, escorting patients, prepping the patient for the provider, scribing for the provider, and assisting in treatment and patient education. This individual is also responsible for routine decontamination and sterilization procedures, instrument processing, and aiding in clinical inventory management. Maintain and uphold established patient care standards, operational processes, and company policies.
