Summary/Objective
The Staff Accountant primary focus is to provide heavy support and serve as the essential backup for both our Accounts Payable (AP) and Payroll functions, while assisting with standard month-end accounting duties. This position is ideal for an early-career accountant who thrives in operational accounting and enjoys cross-functional responsibilities and is looking for growth opportunities.
Essential Functions
- Accounts Payable Support: Process vendor invoices, match purchase orders, resolve billing discrepancies, and act as the primary backup for weekly payment runs.
- Payroll Support & Backup: Assist with the collection, verification, and processing of timesheets, calculate payroll adjustments, and serve as the fully trained backup to run full-cycle payroll.
- Account Reconciliation: Reconcile AP aging reports, payroll liabilities, and bank accounts daily to ensure general ledger accuracy.
- Journal Entries & Accruals: Prepare month-end journal entries, as needed.
- Vendor & Employee Relations: Act as a reliable point of contact to resolve internal payroll inquiries and external vendor payment questions.
- Audit & Compliance: Compile supporting documentation for annual financial audits, workers' comp audits, and payroll tax filings.

Required Education and Experience
- Education: Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
- Experience: 1–3 years of accounting experience, with direct exposure to AP processing or payroll administration.
- Excel Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, data lookups, and formatting formulas.
- Confidentiality: Absolute discretion and integrity when handling sensitive payroll and employee personal data.
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional accuracy in data entry to prevent payroll errors and duplicate vendor payments.

Performing the duties of this job will require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend, reach or stand/ walk when necessary; mostly requires sitting and working on computer/phone.
