About the Role:
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the Charles Lea Center by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing accounting transactions and reports, assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), organizational policies, and applicable regulations. This position works closely with the Director of Finance and other departments to support the agency's mission and financial stewardship.
Essential Responsibilities:
General Accounting
- Prepare and record journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and balance sheet accounts on a regular basis.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain supporting documentation for accounting records and transactions.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Process and verify vendor invoices for payment.
- Assist with accounts receivable activities, including billing, collections, and cash receipts.
- Monitor outstanding balances and follow up as needed.
- Ensure transactions are properly coded and recorded.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare recurring financial reports and schedules for management review.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and related analyses.
- Support budget monitoring and variance reporting.
- Generate reports as requested by the Director of Finance and organizational leadership
Audit and Compliance
- Assist with annual financial audits and preparation of supporting schedules.
- Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
- Support grant and contract reporting requirements, as applicable.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of financial information.
Administrative and Team Support
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding financial information.
- Primary relief for Receptionist.
- Assist with special projects, system implementations, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with agency staff to ensure accurate and timely financial documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
What You’ll Need:
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Working knowledge or Oracle NetSuite preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to analyze financial information and resolve discrepancies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
Professional office setting at the Charles Lea Center. Standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Occasional additional hours may be required for audits, month-end close, and special projects.
Physical Demands

Travel may be required for training when applicable.
