Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi, and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.
The Program Director is responsible for developing and coordinating activities of the PMHNP program (Masters of Science in Nursing and Post Masters Certificate) nursing tracks. The Program Director’s role is to enhance the PMHNP student learning experience, including CCNE, ANCC Exam Preparation, and student advisement. The Program Director will develop and implement educational programs to meet student needs and assist faculty’s didactic and clinical teaching activities. The Program Director will have a thorough knowledge of the California Board of Registered Nurse program policies, rules, and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains an academic teaching course load of up to 10 units every
- Manages confidential student files and records documenting all pertinent academic information within the University, upholding FERPA regulations.
- Student advisor role and responsibilities and respond to student concerns/problems and refer students to appropriate resources, including counseling services.
- Ensures processes are in place to track, monitor, and record student completion and/or program
- In collaboration with CCNE and ANA ANCC PMHNP-BC national certification exam scores, proactively create, implement, and communicate appropriate corrective action plans when outcomes do not meet institutional
- Establishes, implements, and refines PMHNP program policies and
- Ensures that clinical simulation, direct patient care clinical hours, and tracking database systems (e.g., eMedley, Typhon, and Exxat) meet accreditation standards.
- May assist with budget development, solicit grants in support of direct patient care clinical hours, community outreach, and PMHNP administrative operations.
- Ensures and maintains a respectful and professional in-person, or virtual working environment using active learning, reflective thinking, and confidential debriefing processes
- Provides critical thinking skills for successful leadership and support for teaching faculty; serves as a mentor and facilitator for faculty assigned; and enables an environment that fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility.
- Participate in leadership development, implementation, and continuous quality improvement of the student success program.
- Participate in professional development and organizations to maintain an understanding of current ideas in research and practices, attend meetings, training, workshops, and seminars to enrich professional growth, knowledge, and skill in management
- Review and develop action plans based on student and faculty feedback for improvement of the
- Develops and cultivates community partners to further the achievement of simulation goals and
- Monitors and analyzes student attrition and retention data and works with other campus leaders to develop initiatives that can be implemented to improve retention and student success.
- Collaborates with the CDU Enrollment Department to review, approve and process potential graduate NP student applications.
- Maintains professional licenses by maintaining the required CEU and clinical practice
- Participate in national nursing conferences, submit research poster presentations, research abstracts, and publications.
- Coordinate and participate in nursing/medical missions to provide aid within the scope of nursing practice of the State of California Board of Registered Nursing for the Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioner license and specialty qualification/certifications.

EDUCATION:
- Master's degree with course work in nursing education, and nursing leadership, management, and administration is required, terminal degree, strongly desired.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- CCNE, ANCC, and other national nursing certifying
- Must hold or be eligible to hold a clear, active, and unrestricted registered nurse license issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing.
EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years of direct job-related professional experience, including three (3) years of continuous experience, or equivalent, as a registered nurse providing direct patient
- Requires two (2) years of teaching experience in a pre-or post-licensure registered nursing program or
- Experience with CCNE accreditation and BRN approval guidelines and
- Supervisory experience is strongly
