Assistant or Associate Professor in Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy Department at Chatham University invites applications for a 12-month tenure-eligible faculty position. This role will serve as a core faculty member within the entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (ELOTD) program, including teaching courses related to clinical expertise, advising, and engaging in service and scholarship as outlined in the Faculty Manual. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty to support program accreditation, curriculum development, admissions, student success initiatives, and strategic program growth. This position requires routine on-campus presence, with some opportunities for remote work, and may involve occasional evening/weekend commitments. Academic rank will be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and record of scholarship.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare, teach, and evaluate occupational therapy coursework in areas of clinical expertise. Mentor doctoral students in capstone projects and other scholarly activities. Provide academic advising and professional mentorship to students. Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Contribute to program evaluation activities and support accreditation and re-accreditation processes. Collaborate with faculty and staff to support implementation of innovative teaching and learning strategies. Engage in admissions, recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives. Engage in scholarly activities consistent with faculty rank and university expectations, including dissemination of research, scholarship of teaching and learning, or other scholarly contributions. Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service activities. Maintain professional licensure, certification, and continuing competence in areas of expertise. Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Required Qualifications:
- Initial certification as an OTR (occupational therapist, Registered) and current NBCOT certification
- Current Pennsylvania occupational therapy license (or eligibility)
- Earned post-professional doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, ScD, OTD, DrOT, DHSc, CScD)
- Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to working with individuals of varied backgrounds, identities, and perspectives
- High emotional intelligence, excellent listening skills, and a positive, solution-oriented attitude
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion, diplomacy, and judgment
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience teaching in higher education, professional education, or clinical education settings.
- Experience teaching and/or mentoring students in research methods, evidence-based practice, knowledge translation, or scholarly inquiry.
- Clinical and/or teaching experience related to the mental and psychosocial aspects of health and wellness across one or more populations or practice settings.
- Evidence of scholarship, scholarly dissemination, grant activity, or a developing program of research/scholarship.
- Experience teaching in hybrid or online formats.
