Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Clinician to join our dynamic, interdisciplinary team that provides intensive, community-based services to individuals with serious mental illness diagnoses.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in human services or related field; three years of experience related to assigned program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience providing treatment to adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses on an ACT team preferred; experience evaluating programs through data gathering and analysis preferred; specialized experience providing services related to one or more of the following areas: housing, employment, substance use preferred; experience providing clinical and administrative supervision preferred; experience in case management preferred; licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Computer proficiency skills; working knowledge of electronic health record systems. Demonstrated ability to lead others. Knowledge of mental health diagnoses, evidence-based treatment modalities, and the principles of recovery-oriented care preferred; ability to build trusting relationships preferred; ability to navigate community resources to support clients' recovery and independence preferred; skills in crisis intervention and case management preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Duties
- Provides direct clinical services in the community to individuals with serious mental illness diagnoses to include symptom management, counseling, psychoeducation, crisis intervention, and support with daily living skills;
- Works with individuals to support recovery and community integration: sets and pursues person-centered goals; develops a support system; navigates systems such as Social Security and Medicaid; accesses housing, employment, education, etc.;
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to support a shared caseload;
- Participates in daily team meetings to coordinate client care across disciplines;
- Stays up to date with current and new research and best practices in mental health treatment;
- Maintains documentation and compliance: provides services in compliance with ACT fidelity standards, completes daily progress notes and treatment plan reviews;
- Conducts comprehensive assessments to identify mental status, strengths, substance use, functional abilities, and needs to inform service delivery goals;
- Collaborates with the individuals served, their support network, and the treatment team to develop person-centered treatment plans and set recovery goals; and
- Performs other work as required.
This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
