CHL Systems is hiring a Fabrication Technician I to support fabrication and material processing operations in our manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with tools, equipment, materials, and detailed shop processes.
This position is a great fit for someone with manufacturing, shop, fabrication, technical school, or other hands-on work experience who wants to continue building their skills. The Fabrication Technician I will assist with cutting, forming, deburring, material handling, and general fabrication support while learning to operate fabrication equipment safely and accurately.

What You’ll Do
- Perform basic cutting, sawing, shearing, and material-processing tasks
- Assist with press brake setup and basic forming operations under supervision
- Learn to operate or assist with fabrication equipment such as lasers, rollers, ironworkers, saws, and shears
- Deburr, clean, grind, and finish parts to remove sharp edges, burrs, or surface imperfections
- Prepare materials and parts for the next step in production
- Read and follow work orders, shop drawings, basic prints, and instructions
- Measure and inspect parts using basic measuring tools and gauges
- Check parts for accuracy, quality, and completeness
- Load, stage, move, label, and organize materials and fabricated parts
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
- Follow all required safety, PPE, housekeeping, and environmental procedures
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, leads, and team members
- Support general shop workflow and assist with other fabrication tasks as needed
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience in fabrication, manufacturing, metalworking, technical training, or a hands-on shop environment preferred
- Familiarity with hand tools, basic shop tools, and measuring devices
- Ability to read a fractional tape measure
- Ability to convert fractions to decimals
- Basic understanding of angles, measurements, and simple geometry
- Ability to read and interpret simple shop drawings, work orders, and instructions
- Ability to follow verbal direction, written instructions, and standard shop procedures
- Basic understanding of fabrication equipment and material types preferred
- Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and fabrication skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Dependable, punctual, safety-minded, and team-oriented
- Solid verbal and written communication skills in English
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and handle materials or tools
- Frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance or proper equipment
- Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Regular use of hand tools, measuring devices, and material-handling equipment
Work Environment
This role is performed primarily on the manufacturing floor. The work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, airborne particles, fumes, vibration, and other conditions commonly found in a fabrication or manufacturing setting.
The position may involve working around or assisting with forklifts, side loaders, overhead cranes, fabrication equipment, and material-handling equipment. Proper PPE and safe work practices are required.
