Community Based Dental Program Specialist- Kent & Queen Anne Counties
Job Summary: The Community Based Dental Program Support Specialist provides a range of clinical, administrative, and staff support to a school based dental operation for Choptank Community Health (CCHS). Assists in the performance of dental care and administrative procedures; prepares and maintains dental equipment and supplies in accordance with established protocol, procedures, policies, and standards, and assists in the coordination of day-to-day patient administration, records management, and office support activities. This position requires traveling to various sites to function as support for the Community Based Dental providers including Mobile Health Units (MHUs). This is a nonexempt, full-time position in pay grade 3 with the pay range of $19.14 - $24.88. The Community Based Dental Program Support Specialist reports directly to the Director of Community and School Based Programs.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- CPR certified. If not certified, can complete the certification during orientation period.
- A valid driver’s license, as travel to multiple sites is a requirement.
- Drivers’ training for CCHS vehicles including MHU will be provided as driving CCHS vehicles (MHU) is a requirement of this position.
- Bilingual language skills (Spanish/English) a plus
- Must be proficient in computer and basic math skills.
- Demonstrated experience providing exceptional customer service consistent with AIDET.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working in behavioral health or medical setting, preferred.
- Working knowledge of automated patient data systems preferred

- Primary working environment will be in the MHU
- General office environment when not on MHU

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepares, distributes, and collects SBDP enrollment forms each school year.
- Ensures that enrollment forms are completed adequately by parents/guardian and take steps to collect needed information including insurance coverage.
- Updates the Practice Management System to accurately reflect patient demographics and insurance information.
- Participates in Back-to-School nights and other related activities to promote the SBDP.
- Communicates with each child’s dental home to determine if child is due for services.
- Ensures that the SBDP encounter, dental visit report and note home are completed and routed as needed.
- Utilizes the EVS system to verify patient eligibility for dental coverage.
- Posts patient encounters accurately within one week of service.
- Works closely with the Billing Department to correct billing errors.
- Takes a leadership role in organizing, preparing, communicating, when moving to new schools.
- Consistently communicates with school personnel for schedule changes and closings.
- Restocks school sites with supplies and paperwork without prompting.
- Submits written inventory of supplies monthly to Administrative Office.
- Accurately documents and updates logs according to SBDP policy and procedures on daily basis.
- Maintains patient records.
- Controls the patient flow for services.
- Supports School Based dental provider chair side during care in SBHC and/or MHU.
- Enters dental charting information into the Electronic Health Record system.
- Assists dental hygienist as needed.
- Assure that all instruments, charts, and supplies are available prior to patient’s arrival.
- Cleans and disinfects the SBDP set up between patients.
- Maintains patient operatories, including daily disinfection and setup as guidelines outline.
- Cleans and maintains dental laboratory area daily, and the equipment as necessary (including maintenance of vacuum/compressor, flushing and cleaning evacuation hoses, etc. per clinical protocol).
- Monitors and maintains autoclave equipment and dental instruments as necessary to ensure sterile condition and techniques.
- Pitches in to cover shortages within department including rotating to various school sites to complete scheduled services.
- Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.
