JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Supervisor II, performs skilled mechanical and supervisory work in the maintenance, operation, and repair of water treatment plant equipment and facilities. The Utility Mechanic II-Water performs and supervises the servicing, overhauling, repair, and preventative maintenance of various types of pumps, motors, valves, piping, as related to the Dyal Water plant and its facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervises and performs the maintenance and repair of all equipment pertaining to water, water supply, pumping, and treatment.
- Directs shop personnel and plans daily activities and adjusted schedule of work and personnel with equipment, material, manpower and facilities.
- Makes periodic inspections to find future problems and determines preventative maintenance needs
- Performs maintenance and repairs on chemical feed equipment.
- Procures parts, tools, and materials for the repair and maintenance of equipment.
- The majority of position duties are required to be performed on-site.
- Performs fabrication of pump bases, supports, engine stands, pipe supports, as well as pipe cutting and welding.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the methods, tools, and material used in the maintenance, operation, and repair of water treatment equipment, wells for potable water, piping and pumps.
- Knowledge of the principles of mechanics, pumps, and hydraulics and of the hazards and safety precautions related to this type of work.
- Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools related in this field.
- Skill in the use of various welding equipment.
- Skill in the use of a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Office, and various other office equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment and piping blue prints, sketches, and diagrams.
- Ability to plan and supervise work with respect to efficient performance and high morale.
- Ability to keep accurate records in reference to time, material, and job completion.
- Ability to don proper safety equipment necessary to perform tasks safely (respirators, etc.)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED certificate with three (3) years of experience working with water/waste water treatment facilities and equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
